Program will not run
« on: March 02, 2004, 06:01:53 pm »

Although I purchased Media Center yesterday, my computer seems to think I am still using the trial version: when I run the application I get the message that sez my 30 day trial is up.

make sure that you're date and time are set correctly and that you use I.E. to download the program, then repeat KS's instructions. If that doesn't work you'll have to wait till morning for someone more knowlegable than I.

NO - Don't follow KS's instructions as you will use up a restore of which you have a limited number allowed per year.

Instead you should use the .mjr file that was emailed to you after purchase.  This file will work for 14 days and will not use up a restore.

  Media Center Version 9.1
  Win XP
Had the prog. for 30+ days, now cannot get past "trial screen"
FAQ does not address question in any way (KingSparta)
I do not need to restore my license (right?)
Purchased less than 2 weeks ago
Have my key that was emailed to me
The purchase and license details page doesn't answer any questions I   have

How do I utilize my install key? or perhaps, What do I do with my key?   Maybe, How do I get past the "your 30-day trial is up" screen?  I don't know how else to say it.

For everyone else, here's the story.  I used media center for my thirty days and then decided to purchase it.  Upon running the program, it gives me the message "Thanks for using media center...If you would like to convert this trial copy into software...etc."  So I click on the Advance button and then Restore.  I restore it over the internet and get my key.  I open the program again (and again and again...) and get the same message.  Then I select restore license from file (.mjr) option and get a message saying "Error opening file".  If someone could provide step-by-step instructions explaining how to rectify this problem, I would be most grateful.

Did you try the FAQ here?
www.mediajukebox.com/license

9.1 is the version, but there should be a build after that, like 9.1.317.

You can report your system info by going to MC Help and then pasting it here.

Try updating if you have not.

Did you try a restore?

You got the .mjr file that JRiver send to you?

Download the .mjr file to your computer and double click on it. It should say that your Media Center is registered.

You need instructions on how to do this?  Just save the .mjr file to your hard drive and double click it.  Job done.

As far as I know it's version 9.1.317.

> You can report your system info by going to MC Help and then pasting it > here.

Do you mean MC Help *within* Media Center? because I can't get to the program itself as the 'trial' window prevents me from doing so.

I did try restoring it, twice, and that didn't do anything.

When I have downloaded the .mjr file, it saves as a text file,
"Media Center9-37945.mjr.txt" and even after erasing the .txt extension windows still recognizes it as a text file.  Consequently, when I double click on it, it opens in Word pad or whatever.  I also tried opening it with Media Center and it just dumped me to the 'trial' screen again.

What's goin on guys?

do you have a download manager of some sort running?

why would it put a ".txt" on to the file name?

something is changing the file name, and messing with the file on your system.

file associations for .mjr may be accociated with note pad.

my .mjr is accociated with "MediaJukebox.Registration" with one action "open"

maybe you should

1. delete the accociation .mjr
2. re-install media center

or change the accociation to : MediaJukebox.Registration
with one action : open

I think so; I'm running Mozilla.  It's done that sometimes to other files I've d/led but I'd just erase the .txt tag-on and it would be cool.

What's "MediaJukebox.Registration"?  I don't have a file named that on my computer.

I'm going to try uninstalling everything using windows' add/remove then reinstalling and see what that does.

4. file types tab
5. scroll to the .mjr association

what does the association for that extender say now for action open?

you also must use IE and not "Mozilla" and that may also be a problem. Media Center uses IE to read the registration and activate it's self.

other than that not a clue

So is there some other way for him to obtain the system info (save reformatting his HD :))?

Actually, I just opened MCHelp successfully, but am unsure where my system info is located (I know how, of course, to cut'n'paste).

In that case 'Help> System Info' shouldn't be too difficult for you either.

Yeah, but MCHelp is the help file. No good, I fear.

Jim means the Help/System info menu item in MC itself.

Some general info from Windows Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager might help I guess.

You're right lee.  However....I don't know why (do you guys?) but I just d/led my key via IE (which I haven't used in quite a while) and now my nuts works.  I really didn't think that would make the difference.  Yeah, I probably should have tried that to begin with but I have had bad experiances with IE in the past--computer crashing, running verry sloow--so I was hesitant.  Anyways, thanks for the help and sorry for the all the commotion.  Off to burning.
