Media Server Format Conversion
« on: March 14, 2004, 03:20:31 pm »

I notice that there is a "convert format" option for Tivo streams (to MP3 64/128/320); can this be done for standard streams?

Most of my music is stored as APE and the stream ends up being about 1Mb, which is pretty big for off-site streaming and is even a bit of a strain on 802.11b devices locally.

On a separate but similar note, is there a "stream radio station" plug in or such available? Streaming in the "Media Server" proprietary format is cool, but it would be even better if I could use thinner clients on the remote devices.

Thanx, all!

Not currently, but it's something we'd like to add in the next version.

It's just http, so you may be able to make it work with some elbow grease.

Thanks gregoryx.

Thank you, Matt.

"Next version" meaning 10.x?

On the "elbow grease", that seems like it would require writing something to cause the web browser to move the stream to a process that can reassemble the stream into an audio output of some sort. If so, that's not me... unless there's a more "bone head" method of "greasing" it...

Thanks!

Matt,

I'm very interested in this capability as well and was wondering if this feature made it into 10 - or is destined for a point release?

thanks
