Problem, constant sorting
« on: March 12, 2004, 04:29:57 pm »

Using 9.317, library constantly loading panes, sorting, constantly.  causing breaks in music playing, page reloads looking up artist info.  Cannot make it through artist list without reload and resort to even make a playlist, this problem began 9.316 and has continued.  I have even unintalled and reinstalled media center.  How do I fix this?

A couple of things. First, you may want to change the subject of this thread so that it more accurately reflects the problem you're having. You may get more responses that way. Also, in MC, go to Help->System Info... That will automatically copy your system information to the clipboard. Then come back here and post that information. It'll help people diagnose your problem.

Try build 319, or the newest version 10...

As I was sure, the problem was more than likely of the simplist fix.  Auto Sort was on, I have turned that off before, but did not have save on.  Hopefully this is the answer.  Thank You.......

Unfortunately, the problem continues.  Have installed 319, problem continues, in fact it will resort, and knock me from this screen back to media center.  Loading panes, sorting files and bam back to the top of my music library.  This is driving me nuts.

I have several times in the past but currently running audio only from the view menu.  But as an experiment, I ran task, empty properties from the smartlist, and again was interupted by the program loading views, loading panes, sorting files.  But not as rapidly as normal Media Library View.

I do have an additional problem, while doing a manual tag edit the program crashes everytime.

Try this:

Back up your data directory in Program Files/JRiver/Media Center.
Uninstall.
Delete the Program Files/JRiver/Media Center directory.

Download again.  Don't use a download manager.
Install.
Import.
If the problem goes away, then try substituting the data directory you backed up.

After the uninstall and before the reinstall delete this reg key if it still exists:

HKCU> Software> JRiver

My dreaded plague continues.  I have uninstalled, and reinstalled.  could not find the HKCU> Software> JRiver anywhere, I have not even bothered to restore my library yet.  as soon as I clicked on Media Library the sorting started immediately.  Uninstalled again, installed media center 10.  Absolutely no difference.

something somewhere is causing this, I am a huge media center fan, I cannot let this beat me.  Any other ideas?

You mean it happens over and over again?

Could the F5 key on your keyboard be stuck?

I now have a very clean keyboard, taking your idea and getting it as clean as I could, I am after all a guilty keyboard abuser.  It is still doing it, but I mentally feel so much better Matt because pressing the F5 key will make it do what it is doing.  So I now know that someone in the world knows what I am talking about.  You could be on to something, and it certainly will not hurt me to have a new keyboard, and it could be the problem.  So I shall change it and hope this fixes my problem.  Let you know....  Thanks

I hate to say it, but a bad F5 key probably isn't it. Reason: F5 is the refresh/reload key for both IE and FireFox...and unless you've noticed constant page reloads when browsing, then the keyboard isn't the problem. Check your Startup folder and see if there's anything funky there.

I could find nothing in the startup folder that looks out of place, any ideas on what to look for?  No to the virus scan that will be my next move.  Thank you for your help.  My keyboard does seem to work fine, not reloading browser or does this problem appear in any other application.

How often does it refresh?

Does it happen in Playlist, Drives & Devices, or Playing Now views?  (or only Media Library)

Thanks.

It does it in Playing now, but it does not jump to media library, the page reloads at times causing skips in the music, but it does it constantly in Media Library, it does it in burn, it does it in playlist.  Incidently, I did a virus scan, none found, I have also turned off any other application running and still the same result.  I have had Media Center on this computer from an Early Beta stage, never had any kind of major problem until I updated around version .315 or .316

When I go to CD, DVD, & Handhelds, with nothing in the drives, a constant analysing devices popup comes up in rapid secession. with a cd in the drive, it works perfectly.  Hmm, now that is an odd discovery, while a cd is playing, I can switch the screen to Media Library, and the sorting has stopped completely.  Take the cd out, It starts all over again with the analysing devices, and the sorting on Media Library.  I put the CD back in let it load, the analysing stopped, went to Media Library and the sorting has stopped.  I have now done this five times with the same result.

As a workaround, try turning off the auto-insert notification. (regedit.exe and change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom\AutoPlay to 0, then reboot)

Also, please post your system info from the MC help menu.  Make sure you're using MC 10 instead of MC 9.1.

If none of that helps, what types of CD drives do you have?  We may need to send you a special build of Media Center for debugging.

Sony CD-RW CRX 225E
Creative DVD-ROM DVD1241E

I have been running this all night with no problem as long as a CD is loaded in the Sony.  As soon as I take it out the problem insues immediately.  I am running 319 as that is what I paid for.

It won't be tonight, but I will follow your instructions with version 10 as soon as I have time.

Try disconnecting the drive.  Just as a test.

Are the CD and DVD drives on a different IDE channel than your hard drive(s)?  Are they configured and cabled correctly (master and slave)?
