Did you try contacting them?  It's the first time I've heard it.

Nope...did you?

I just noticed this this morning while installed MC 10.0.92 and disabled SpywareGuard during the MC installation to get MC installed...then re-enabled.

There is no spyware in Media Center.

SpywareGuard doesn't allow InstallWizard.exe to be run after file extraction.  Manually running the same file from the same location works.

No log entry is added to SpywareGuard, so it's either buggy or messing with something else on the system.

Software with system hooks like that can cause strange problems.

Thanks...Matt!!

I wasn't implying MC had spyware (sorry if that's the way it read)...I just wanted to know if anybody knew what was going on.  I could see that files were getting extracted, but the wizard just would not run.

Sounds like you've seen this before and/or tested it yourself...thanks!  With all the crap floating around lately (seen so many friend's PCs getting infected...that I have to fix (argh)), you just gotta have more protections...anti-virus software & firewalls ain't enough anymore.

Have you tried adaware?

Apparently it's one of the best spy protection programs...

Yea...I use and like Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy...however, they are only scanners and fixers...they DO NOT MONITOR your PC realtime like SpywareGuard does (like anit-virus software).

Also, SpywareBlaster is great too (from the same people)...as a second-line of defense...it stops all known spyware/adware programs from running even if installed/infected already..SpywareGuard blocks installation of such bad programs in realtime (preventing infection like anti-virus software does/attempts to).

Nope...I have the paid version of Ad-Aware Plus...Ad-Watch just alerts, but doesn't really block much (pretty poor, IMHO).  My friends had Ad-Watch running and they still got infected with search hijackers and adware (Ad-Watch didn't even notice).

Thanks for the reminder, running Ad-Aware right now. :)

I also run Spybot as insurance but find that Ad-Aware usually finds everything.

I ran Adware Agent - which I think might be different from Ad-aware - recently, and it identifies Media Server as a "blacklisted" program.

I have gone to SpySweeper and it not only sweeps it will set up protections for monitoring memory and internet settings.
It will also schedule a full sweep for off-peak usage times.

I still run AdAware occaisionally as well.

Norton AV 2004 offers some additional protections for Threats including: spyware, adware, dialers, joke programs, remote access and hack tools.

I cannot help but wonder when it becomes overkill or when these programs begin fighting each other's attempts.

I don't really understand all your big problems about spyware. What could happen to me if I don't care about? Will the cookies kill me?

Sometimes people tend to be a little bit hysteric.

I don't mind them seeing where i go on there website and what i look at.

But if there is a plug-in running i really don't want all my private info going to some guy sitting in a dark room playing with one of his private parts.

And what will he do with all that info's in his very (very!) dark room?

First turn on the light and then the same as your credit card company? Or your bank? Or your shopping center? Maybe you'll get one more spamming mail? Who cares?
