If this is trully the big new secret, then I think we need to cut Matt a break. It's not exactly what I was hoping for or expecting, but to be honest, given the feature rich, stable state MC is in right now, I can't complain. Looking at the big picture though, it appears that Matt has built a pretty solid foundation for future interative games/visualizations that would certainly set MC further apart from the competition. Good job Matt.

p.s. 3D pong is a quite addicting I have to admit

Pong is too fast to keep up with. I do way better by not doing anything and let the machine play itself.
I thought maybe "s" would slow it down but it doesn't seem to. What is it supposed to do? And what does the "W" do?

I keep waiting for the punch line. I've been logging in quite a bit to see if the real version will get posted and you will tell us this has been a joke.

That you seem perplexed over the negative response to the pong thing concerns me. Personally, I think that MC10 is far and away the best program of it's kind on the market. Nonetheless, after the pong anouncement I must conclude that either, 1) you ARE in fact pulling our collective leg, or 2) you have lost touch. Either way, I'm prepared to either 1) laugh with you, or 2) laugh at you, as soon as I figure out which is appropriate. Either way, no disrespect is intended, and it's meant as the laughter that one shares while the bottle of good wine is passed among friends.

Asteroids. Pac Man. What about Atari's Joust? I was good at that. Nice slow-moving game. I could keep up.

I couldnt figure out "up" or "down" in this Pong mostly because it did everything in less than 1 second ... multiple ups and downs and dozens of volleys. The score was up to Media Center 45, Various 15 in less than five seconds.

I'm horrible at the pong too ...

Honestly, that will probably be the last time I play it. Not really my thing I guess. If I want to play a 3D game, I will load up an actual 3D game. If I want to play a silly little pointless game, I will load up one of the silly pointless k-games on my linux box.

I must say though, I did manage to get more than 1 score. Geesh!

The more I think about it the more I think it must be a lark ...

Almost 10pm JRiver time.... much later most other places..... cept a couple North American time zones.... A few hours ago...there were 60 or 70 people on this forum.... presumably most of them waiting for the release... now... there is... 38... and most are guests.

It would seem odd to have a major release when there are so few people to witness it....

I suspect you can go to sleep without worry of missing "THE BIG MOMENT".

If MC will be tied into a music store, why not just say so? Other music stores announced their forthcoming nature ahead of time.

But no matter what the "big secret" is, why is it such a source of ongoing banter? Why presume to tease over it? If something significant is coming down the road, say so, then say "we can't say what it is, sorry".

Why taunt your own users? What is the point? Have you no idea how irritating that can be?

But in any event, will the curtain go up on this development before the United States' tricentennial?

I'm glad MC hasn't gone down the road of a pay on-line music service. What would be so exciting about that ?

However, I have to say that I'm astonished that MC would devote 30% of their resources [and presumably 30% of our licence payments] to this Pong game.

If there was an option of downloading MC with or without the game, I'd opt for the game free version.

There were many fantastic ideas posted in this forum at the time v10 came out. Very few of them have been implemented in 10. However we get a game - how many users had that on their MC wish list ?

Now all we need to be able to do is play against other MC users in realtime, and set up a ladder type tournament or something.

Yeah, that'd be cool.

Only a couple of problems...
1) What's going on with the bottom of the screen? MC is bouncing the ball off an invisble barrier at the bottom of the screen and is winning far too much...
2) DirectX 9.0? I was pretty stoked when I read that... I thought that maybe you'd added some cool High Dynamic Range Lighting effects, or at least some pixel shading to the 3d vis's to make them at least a little interesting to look at.. but no.
3) WHERE'S THE SDK

We (try) not to get upset at people's responses - we usually take them jokingly, especially when it's JimH... I don't think he ever says anything seriously

Insults aren't necessary. Anybody can see that 3D Pong isn't the "Big Thing" that JRiver has been taunting us with - it's just a diversion, to try and throw us off track - I hope...

Well I did not expect anything in particuler with build 100 so, 3D pong is fun

Rolling Stones (Exile) : 27 vs Media Center :9 ! so far

Just one thing thought: the keys w (up) and s (down) are fine on a US/UK (QWERTY) keyboard but on my french (AZERTY) keyboard the s key (down) is on top of the w key so it makes playing a bit more challenging !

what about e(up) and d(down) for uniformity across the keyboards layouts ?

BTW and OT, we are all awaiting for tonight's great rugby game : France vs England. that will be hot !!
(Edited : ooops ! It's not vs UK but vs England of course, my apologies to the people of Scotland and Wales.

Maybe if you lightened up a little you'd understand the humor in the situation. I think it's obvious to most rational people that this is just a bit of fun. Kind of like music. Presumably that's true, but let me throw in two cents from a lurker.

I love Media Center. A bunch of my clients use it because of my enthusiasm. I use it more than any other program, and I have invested a huge amount of time into its tools to organize and tag and display music.

My long term concern about the program is no different than any other program that requires a serious commitment of time and energy: will the program and its developer survive for the long term? I've gone thru the pain more than once of having a program disappear and leave a lot of effort orphaned. I don't want that to happen with J River.

I've been excited about the hints that J River had formed an alliance that would help assure the company's financial success and the program's future. I've been checking in regularly for the last few months - and frequently today - for more information about that.

This has been a profoundly weird day on Interact - and more than a little off-putting. Presumably Pong is a joke. It would have been mildly amusing if it had been followed a few minutes later by a post describing what's really going on.

But I'm not laughing any more. Haven't been laughing for quite some time. It's a silly joke and it's gone on too long. I hope there's more info to come, sooner rather than later. I'm perfectly prepared to love MC forever and ever. But I'm going to bed irritable.

Whether it is a joke or not, I think it created a lot of bad feelings and probably some bad publicity. I know that the upcoming "big release" has been talked about in other boards. I know for a fact that there are many users/potential users on the Rio Karma boards. They are waiting for Karma support. Now the news is being reported that the next big thing out of JRiver was a pong game.

Glad to hear it. It sure sounded like a joke but then as time went on, people started to wonder. Reading through the forums, I see that I certainly was not the only one wondering.

Especially since the final release had been promised by 3/26.

Pong is a nice addition to your 3D vis's but I'm kinda ticked that none of my skinning bugs were fixed. The time taken to do this could have been put to use on the other visual aspects of MC.
