can't get record sound to work in MC10
« on: March 29, 2004, 04:31:31 pm »

My previous bug report was edited out in the thread, as I gather it isnt considered a bug.

I can't the record sound function to work.

I get the line-in signal through as it should, the sound is coming out the speakers, and MC adjusts the recording level using auto.

When I then hit "start" in the recorder, the progress line does say that it is "recording", but the time display continues to stay at: 00:00.

When I hit "stop" MC  freezes and it either shuts down or I have to ctrl-alt-delete it away.

This happens every time.

If this problem is at my end - I am really lost, and could use some help.

I know this is tiny compared to the big launch of mc10, however I'm still hoping for somebody to help me on this.

I am puzzled about the prob because MC freezes and doesnt respond in the recording process. This indicates for me that it is a MC issue..?

Just had a go with ezconverter, a simple recorder, and it was succesful recording from line in. But unsuccesful with MC10 (and 9.1. for that matter).

My soundcard is DMXxfire 1024 - with newest driver available.

Am I missing something?

Have you ever been able to record with MC using that sound card? If not, it sounds like a compatibility problem. Can you record using the simple Windows sound recorder?

Also, have you looked for updated drivers for the card?

Hi John,

thx very much for responding.

Yes, I just tested with the windows sound recorder, and that went just fine.

In the early MJ6,7 and 8 days I definetely believe I could.
I also seem to remember I noticed with v.9 that the recorder function didnt work for me. I believe I reported it once long time ago, and again recently in the latest 9.1. thread, and now again with MC10.

Yes - I've got the latest drivers from terratec.

All my library consist of mpc files. I only use this format to encode in.
When I have to use other non-mpc applications, I use wav.
This was why it worked with windows soundrecorder and ezconverter.

With MC the encoding setting was mpc. When the encoding setting is for any other format (tried wav, mp3 and ogg) it works for me!

When MC is set to mpc in encodingsettings, the record sound doesnt work, unless I uncheck the rip and encode simultanously option in the settings.

Now I can make it work :-)

Thank you for giving me the motivation to dig further!
