Radio Speed selection is not working
« on: April 06, 2004, 05:27:42 pm »

Same bug as last build.  The Speed box in the Web Media FIND STATIONS panel doesn't work.  Radio stations of all speeds are returned, regardless of what the user has selected.

Incidentally, downloading a list of stations can take a while even on broadband.  While this is happening, the display is blank, the cursor does not change to an hourglass, and the status bar at the bottom of the screen says "Ready".  It's not at all clear that MC is doing anything, and the first time I saw it I thought it had crashed.  There really should be some indication that MC is busy downloading stations....

Madcow,

We double-checked the functionality, and it works as advertised. The selection will filter out all stations above the selected speed.

Is that how it's suppose to work???  Interesting.  I thought this was a bug, too, but I thought it was suppose to filter out speeds below the selected speeds, like Madcow did I guess.  :-\

So I guess the filter is really on geared towards dial-up users then, correct?

I thought the same thing a little while back.  My suggestion was to add an "and higher/and lower" toggle after the speed selection box, so the user could use it either way that he needed.  People with faster connections would obviously choose "and higher."

I don't remember it working like this a while back.  So now, if I search for 128kbps stations, I have to wade through all the 24k, 56, etc. stations as well, even if I would never listen to them?

This seems backwards IMO.

So what does "Anything Faster" give you?

Anything faster gives any speed (from 24k to 128+).

I didn't realise this was the way it was supposed to work, and it seems plain wrong.

I would only ever use the filter to search for radio stations ABOVE a certain limit.  Being on broadband, I don't really want to listen to compressed stations at 24K - when I spotted this I was looking for 56K and upwards.

How about the blank display "issue", then?

I'm not at my home computer so I can't look at it but, I thought I remember the first option being something like "any speed". I could be wrong.

The logic is that if you have a 128K line, you can listen to anything 128K or less, but will experience pauses at 128K or more.

I'll take a look at this and see if I can make y'all happier.

Makes sense this way. The other way I had to look through all the low rates to find the high ones.

Thanks
