Replay Gain difference bet 9.1 & 10.0
« on: April 08, 2004, 11:49:54 am »

Having shifted to 10.0 and proceeding to analyse new stuff. I wondered whether its still necessary to add a fixed gain of +9dB (std. was 83dB, i think) to the Replay Gain settings. This used to be the norm to get volume normalisation.

I'm wondering whether the replay gain in 10.0 adds the 9.0 dB automatically or does it also use the same baseline of 83dB as 9.1 did ?

If replay Gain has changed in 10.0, then it will be necessary to re-analyse the whole library to get replay gain to work. Hope this wont be necessary.

Nothing has changed.

Note that there's no "correct" amount to add to the baseline.  It's personal preference.

For playback, the best choice is probably letting MC intelligently choose based on what is in Playing Now.  That way, you'll get the maximum safe volume while maintaining an equal volume across all the tracks in the playlist.
