REQUEST: Way to generate all thumbnails
« on: April 15, 2004, 06:07:58 pm »

I have a lot of AVI and MPG's and I've just upgraded to 10.0. As I navigate around the place, it takes ages to generate thumbnails from them. It then has to generate them again when I go into Theatre View. A process I could run overnight that would generate all thumbnails for Mega-Me and Theatre View would be great.

Don't know if it counts as a bug, but any subtitled AVI (using DirectVobSub) doesn't get a thumbnail.

Are they on a local drive or a network drive?

They are on a local drive, but accessed via a UNC path to make the DB more portable. I'm not saying it's really slow (about 1 second each) but there are lots to do and it only does them on demand. At the moment, I'm just hitting Pg-Dn everytime it finishes a screenfull, and I'll have to do it all over again in Theatre Mode.

Can you try it as a normal local drive?  You could set up a second library and import again to test.

Seems about the same, subjectively. About 1 second each. If I do one batch in Mega-me then in Theatre View, it's a bit quicker, but that's presumably because they're still in the disk cache. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it's an external firewire drive.

DirectVobSub'ed AVI's still aren't getting thumbnails either.
