MC100.106 Re-Installation Crisis
« on: April 12, 2004, 03:06:44 am »

Hi  :(
I couldn't get my CD Burner to work 0n 100.106 so I tried to reinstall MC. During the install when the Wizard was copying and registering files, IT Stopped. My computer froze without the reinstall completed. Then when I tried to start MC I get this error message

"Failed to initialize Registration Control."

I then tried to uninstall MC and start from the beginning but that too failed and froze half way.
I tried installing MC 9.1.316 it got to within one bar of completion and froze.
So now I'm asking if theres a EXE file or some other file I can get to get MC back on line.

I am a version 10 registered user and I tried restoring my licence which was successful. I have also tried System Restore on my computer (which wasn't )!! Please help me out of this jam!

I can't show you my system info but I run Windows ME.

Gday Snapper,

Try uninstalling again, and removing the contents of the C:\Program Files\J River folder.

If you're comfortable doing it, use the registry editor and remove any references to Media Center you can find in there. If you're not too keen on using regedit, there are some registry cleanup type programs out there which will remove dud references in your registry for you (I personally like the TuneUp Tool set from http://www.tuneup.de.

Then try re-installing again.

One final tip, re-install your machine with a decent OS, ME is the worst version of Windows apart from Win95 IMO. If your machine isn't up to running XP, you're still better off with Win98SE as far as I'm concerned. (I'm sure this'll attract some booing and hissing - aah well, that's life...)

Hi Lunch
Try uninstalling again, and removing the contents of the C:\Program Files\J River folder.

If I do this won't I lose my ability to install MC on my computer.
I did remove files from the registry using reg cleaner.
But still could not uninstall or install MC.

Try cleaning out your temp directory files.  Search for RAR*  Also do IE/Tools/Internet options/Delete files.

Use build 110 or 111 when you reinstall.

Thanks a Million Jim.

Your advice did the trick. I installed 10.0.111 and have been able to burn CD's as well. What I;m really pleased about is that for the first time from 9.1 till now, I can use the cross fade and DSP effects on my CD burn.
