Jukebox distortions
« on: April 12, 2004, 09:39:06 pm »

In RECORDING SOUND I'm getting far too much chopped and truncated sounds - making the recorded music unlistenable.
It happens on LP's, maybe because they're too old or they're too rocky or whatever other reason i don't know
45 singles seem to be OK
Should I abandon the Jukebox and download a new copy?

What?

there's no jukebox specific reason why this should occur. it could be due to the lp itself, or maybe the settings used (unlikely though). what bitrate / file type are you using?

i would recommend upgrading to MC 10, but only because its generally a better program. not for any reasons specifically related to this problem.

there are also 3rd party LP transfer programs that are supposed to remove some of the LP's snap/crackle and pop but ive never used any

Thanks
don't know bitrate etc but i'll look it up next week.

Not doing anything special or fancy though.

I haven't been able to cure the problem with experiments like using 50% input volume, or reducing volume from the auto value or using/not using Track Split.  So I don't know

Well, here I am again.
To answer a question, the internal bit depth is 32 and output is on 16 as it won't work higher.
The internal bitrate on Windows Media is set at 128

I guess the trouble I am having would be described as 'clipping' or maybe 'skipping' a small
portion of the sound.  I've been practising on America album Homecoming and there's trouble
on every track.  Now I find some of the 45s I previously input and burned have the same trouble.
  Oh Woe Is Me.

However, I've chosen Normalisation at 95% and disabled simultaneous record/encode and there's
a marked difference to 100% success.  I suppose the machine is not able to thik about too many
things at once.  It looks like this arrangement will work forever.  Whether it does or not
it's good for me and I hope it can be good for anyone who reads this.

Thanks cobbers

how do you know the internal bit depth is 32? 16 output is fairly standard...
