Multizone Volume Control
« on: April 16, 2004, 12:11:07 pm »

Hey, I'm pretty new to the whole media center thing.
I've just bought the media center package, and also
the full cinemar lobby control software for both
pc and pocket pc. I'm attempting to setup multizone
playback to different rooms in my house. My problem
is that I cannot control the volume independantly
between the zones. When I modify the volume
in one zone, all the rest of the zones change accordingly.
I've tried using both a multi channel sound card,
and using independant sound cards for each zone.
Is there a setting that I can change for independant
control, or perhaps a plugin/fix for this problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Pete

Use MC's "Internal Volume" instead of the "System Volume."

It's in the Volume menu with MC 10. (and 9.1)

I hear you knocking, and I'm coming in... Dave Edmunds, wasn't it?  ;) Yes, the internal volume is the best way to do it. If not you'll have to use Girder and control the system volume (that is the sound card volume), but that's a lot more complicated. I use the internal volume control with both NetRemote and IR remotes (and even a keypad in the backseat of the car, between my kids' seats so they can control the volume to their headphones). And there is a lot of info about multizone on my page, but I do need to update a bit of it. The problem is that real life has a tendency to get in the way of my online life. Maybe I'll have to dump the house , the cars, the dogs, the motorbike and the family sooner or later to get enough time for website construction and posting... Yeah, right!  ;D
