Feature request: overlay navigator
« on: April 18, 2004, 09:54:19 pm »

Most of the time when I'm playing music, I'm running G-Force or a slide show in full screen mode. Browing the library means exiting full screen mode entirely, either to Standard mode or Theater view.

It would be cool if there were an "overlay" mode for navigating playlists and the library, overlaid on the full screen mode - kind of like a DVD player menu.

You could probably reuse 90% of the logic for the Theater view, perhaps making a template with the background set to the video overlay color or something like that.

This would probably be the mode which I would use most of the time, since I have a PC basically dedicated to media playback. Also fun for parties/DJing.

I made a mockup:

Anyone else think this is worthwhile?

I use the navigators in Zoomplayer a lot, it lets me do stuff without interrupting playback. It would be nice to have similar in MC.

That's actually a pretty nice idea. Maybe one of the theatre view scheme could be designed just for that. It doesn't seem to be something too hard to implement. But then, what do i know about programming? :(

let's see what they say about it,

Overlays on windows that MC isn't drawing (like G-Force) is pretty tricky.

The only way I can think to do it would be with regions, but a region for that much text would be incredibly slow.

Drawing menus like this on our own windows (DVD, MC visualizations, etc.) would be easier, but it's still a pretty big job.

For now, any chance you could make it easier to flip between fullscreen and Theater View with a remote button or something?
