REQUEST: bookmarks
« on: April 19, 2004, 01:22:24 pm »

If you're now considering features for 10.1, could I suggest some simple bookmark features? At its simplest, it might go like this:

Add a field called "Bookmark" which stores the number of seconds into a track the bookmark is.
When the user presses "Stop", store the current time in "Bookmark"
Add a hotkey, menu item and toolbar button that seeks to the time stored in "Bookmark"

That way, I could stop half way through a track or video, play something else, then later come back and instantly resume where I was.
A more advanced feature might be to add another hotkey, menu item and toolbar button to "Add bookmark at current time" and make the "Save bookmark on stop" an option. Then DJ's or whoever could bookmark favourite in-points and access them quickly.

Bump. Would anyone else like to see this feature?

Yep, that would be useful. I would also be interested in the possibility of bookmarking within a playlist as well.

Basically, I'd like to be playing something, set a bookmark, switch to another playlist for a bit, then return to the original playlist at the point where I left it.

Interesting ideas. A booklist manager ala (the one in ur web browser)

I dont use playlists that much, preferring either whole albums or random smartlists.

I think the way MC was setup in the older versions (7 - 9.1), there was heavy use of playlists.

What kind of playlists do you use ? to necessitate a return to where u left off.

For audio books i can see the advantage but not for music.

I see a very good use for this: bookmarking your favorite scene in X-rated flims... J/K But it would actually be nice for such things as audiobooks and movies.

sometimes I like to check a song not in the playlist and then come back to where I left off in the playlist - a bookmark/save feature would be great.

I was just thinking the same thing. I am listening to an audiobook while I'm doing lesiurely work and I thought it would be great to jump right back where I left off instead of having to look for it.

I envision a shortcut key that will mark it with a default name (such as date and time) and then later on I can right-click on either the file or the URL and see that last bookmark.

I'd make the switch to v10 if I knew this would get implemented.

Well, there is a way of doing this right now.
Using zones.
Not that I have tried, but should be possible.
one zone plays a movie, other plays a playlist. Switching between them shold be easy. A different thing is to have a collection of interesting bookmarks... like scenes in a movie that one liked.

I like the idea of bookmarks.
