iPod problems with v10 final release
« on: April 22, 2004, 02:41:57 am »

I've been using the v10 beta for months now with no problem, and then, today, when I upgrade to v10 final, I get some really strange problems with iPod compatibility.

I'm currently running 10.0.116. Before you ask, the iPod is formatted correctly. I'd been using it for months with the MC 10 betas. MC recognizes the iPod and allows me to explore the contents. However, when I try to do a sync or even transfer files I get an error window. It's just a red X (standard errror icon) with no error message. The title of the window is "h."

I re-initialized and restored the iPod using the Apple updater; neither fixed the problem. I really have no idea what could be wrong. Can anyone offer any advice? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Andy

Well, I don't know what causes your problem.  ?

I do have a few suggestions though: :)
- Update to the latest version (119) it might have some fixes for this issue
- If you have another comp, install MC on it and see if you get the same problem.
- Do a full FAT32 format of the ipod before reisntalling the Apple software. That might be overkill though since your Ipod used to work with MC.

Also, just to let you know, there's a new board for Portable Digital Players support/ discussion. This thread probably belongs there.

Good luck with it,

Just wanted to add something--when I transfer files manually (by dragging them onto the iPod's drive letter in the tree-view on the left hand side of MC) I can get files onto the iPod.

However, I can't drag ALL of my files manually--that dredded "h." error window pops up. And I still cannot synchronize my files. Has anyone expereinced anything like this before?

I wonder if it has to do with:
a) large database issue.
b) unsupported file format or something like that.

Andy,

I will drop you an email on this and then send you a build to diagnose this.

Everyone,

FYI, Andy had a file with an illegal character in it. The next build of MC will provide a correction for this.
