TV Tuner
« on: May 11, 2004, 09:03:09 pm »

My Sony Vaio, with a built-in TV tuner card (WDM driver), is not recognized by Media Center 10.  What do I need to do?

I have a VAIO with TV tuner card. It just does not show up in the list of WDM video capture devices. Are you sure you have WDM driver?

I am not positive that I have a WDM driver.  How can I make sure or get one?

Since I got this computer, I have not been able to use the TV tuner that came with it in Media Center (or Media Jukebox). I thought I understood why, but now I can not remember  :-[

Maybe there is something special about the hardware, or its just Sony did not have WDM driver. Usually a WDM driver would show up in Device Manager, under "Sound, video and game controllers". I see there an entry called "Sony MPEG2 Encoder Board (WDM)". It probably refer to the TV board. But there seems not a WDM Video Capture driver.

Basically, MC TV relies on Microsoft DirectShow to enumerate all video capture drivers available. If its there, MC can use it, otherwise it can't.

I can tell you why Sony come with there own Hardware MPEG2 Encoder know as Giga Pocket and far I know of they don't support DirectShow they use there own custom API.
