Apple wins iTunes interface patent, MC 10 the same ?
« on: May 11, 2004, 10:50:12 pm »

"Apple Computer has won a patent for the interface of its iTunes music software, underscoring the growing importance of the multimedia business for the company."

Uh, here goes that stupidity thing regarding the patents office.

I tried Itunes 4.5 and when I click the browse button MC looks the same.  I seem to remember MC9 being like this, was MC 9 like this before Itunes in its current form ?

In fact apple are not very innovative today.  The dock which they claim is in reality ripped off.  As are shadows, interactive icons, docklets .... all ripped from Stardock desktopX project.

I hope Apple dont go full force on MC :(

Oh yeah heres another one, they won a patent for a TFT with a swivel !

The patent office will hand out a patent for just about anything these days. Hardly any of them will stand if contested. Just shows what idiots are running the place.

Interesting, I didn't know Stardock had the dock before Apple. Glad to have learned that. :P

It's just another of Apple's "We're the first to" ________ (add whatever you want here)

Just like when they delivered the first 64 bit desktop... a few months after AMD's 64 bit cpus had already been on the market... Even though AMD's were aimed more for servers/workstations, they were still at a similar price. Also, I find it pretty cute to advertise for a 64 bit machine when they don't have a 64 bit OS yet...

Anyway, enough bitching around, they still own M$ at hiring design companies for making their user interface. Looking at the screenies from Longhorn is pretty scary. It still looks like they copy/pasted some graphics on the good old win95 interface. I think they should really do a competition like guiolympics for Longhorn; with a fat $1mill first price. At least they would get the attention of all the best skinners out there and some kick ass UI.

Well, I'm really going OT so I'll stop.

Peace,

-Cascius

Looks like Thomas Edison is alive and well and living in the Apple boardroom.  ;)

Yes Longhorn is truly groteque, with all that cash to burn you would think they could find some talent.  Thank god for Stardock.  Oh MC 10 is the only app to crash objectdock when you minimise it a few times !
