Services Manager?
« on: May 14, 2004, 04:26:19 pm »

Under 'Tools' I see a Services Manager.
Nothing in the window when I try it.
Should there be?

Thanks!

There will be sometime in the next month or two.  You will be able to add music or movie services.  Here's the press release we put out this week:

http://www.musicex.com/press/press49.html

It will be similar to what the iTunes player has for a store, but it won't be limited to a single source and it will also include movies.  Maybe games eventually.

The Service Manager will allow you to add or remove services so you can have it the way you want it.

We aren't the direct provider of any of them.  We will just offer the services that are available.

will it slow the program down, or is there a way of turning it off?

It has zero effect on anything else in the program.

It all sounds great!

I'm hoping once released, that all of these internet service plugins will be manageable through some kind of parental control tool.

I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it, I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!

That's a good thought.  We've already added access control to movies for that purpose, so you could restrict your kids could only watch what you want them to.  Adding access to whole services might work.  The services themselves also have account logins and passwords.

Our customer is also very sensitive to this issue.

Tim, get a paper bag and breathe into it for a few minutes.

I imagine that the intial impression will be very good, but not fantastic.  It's a messy area to work in.  Things will work well in the beginning, but I think it will take some time before it's really great.

Sounds like a good thing™

Just don't succumb to the MMJB bug and become primarily a service carrier. That's all those folks ever update nowdays.

Thanks for the info. Good luck on the endeavor!
