Misticriver.net user comments on MC and iRiver
« on: May 22, 2004, 12:36:25 pm »

I just downloaded MC 10 to demo it (after reading great stuff on misticriver.net). In addition to using it for my (soon to be ordered iHP120) I want to "optimize" photos en-masse for emailing (meaning, save simultaneously save dozens of jpg files at a lower resolution). However, I can't even get MC10 to open a file in the Media Editor after selecting a photo ("error decoding file...").

Looks like MC doesn't do photo editing? Any suggestions for a (free) tool to do my en-masse resizing?

Media Editor just works with music.

Resizing is possible in MC, but the original isn't preserved, so make a copy first.

Select image files and right click.  Do image/resize.  You can also save to web page or e-mail images in a similar way.  Resizing is possible in this process.

To open an image editor, use right click/send to.

There is info in Help in MC.

Do you have a link at misticriver.net?  Just curious what was said.

This might be it:

J. Rivers Media Center (NOT associated with Iriver) (votes: 0 - hits: 235)
Uploader: Doug
This is the ONE ! Look no further, because Media Center has got you covered ! Do you need a secure/stable ripper ? Encoder ? Music, video, picture and all round player/management system ? How about Internet radio ? Perhaps a slide show with your choice of pics with music in the backround ? Well Media Center can do it..and do it WELL ! From preset encoding methods, to totally custom settings with the encoder of your choice, Media Center is your one stop program that has what you NEED. It's tagging system is extraordinary, so no more excuses..you set up the format, and it does the rest. It's a sinch ! iTunes has nothing on this puppy. It also comes in a trimmed down version called Media Jukebox. It's basically the player/management system without the extras. Only downside: Media Center is Shareware. So that means 30 day trial and then you're prompted to buy it. It's cheap enough, and IMO well worth the money, if you're into that sort of thing. If not..there's always...nevermind. ;)

Thanks, gamer. That was one of many posts. More...

from SweetSpot, site admin:
But here I am again, pushing Media Center. It does all that the other programs do, and OH so much more. And yes...does everything just as well if not better. That's all I have to say about that.

from Tombo77:
I am also using Iriverium and find it useful as well. The sync feature is great! BUT Media Center will be THE software to buy wen it gets the Iriver Plug in. ...... (another post about Iriverium) Even when I had the online connection the "activation key" they provided online did not work and well the software is useless and even with emails I have not recieved a response. This is a HUGE hassle and for this reason I have taken the $25 hit and am using Media Center. Media Center can be upgraded uninstalled and reinstalled using the reg number anytime anywhere.

from ton:
On their forum they now have a board about Portable Digital Players and even a thread "Which is your favourite iRiver player".  See: Here (hot link inserted)

JimH, thanks for your comments on Media Editor. From the name its not obvious it only does music and since MC is pushing its capabilities for all media (audio, photo, video) it seemed reasonable it would handle photos. I did find that the email feature would automatically resize photos in bulk, though the "small, medium, large" designations are not very descriptive. Similarly, the bit rates didn't seem well defined for CD ripping (MC is loaded on my other computer so I can't give more specifics right now). I'm looking forward to digging deeper into MC10 and think it will work for me. I sure struggled figuring out how to get the photos "reloaded" into the library. Digging through "help," trying lots of comands.... I just have to learn the new nomenclature.

If you still want to batch process images, have a look at this http://www.imageresizer.com/

I'm not sure what you mean.  In MC 10, these are labeled with the size that will be produced and there is a custom option.
