new tag format on APE files?
« on: May 22, 2004, 10:49:06 pm »

Is this a feature of APE 3.99?  Or is it MediaCenter that is responsible?

Thanks,

Bill

APE switched to APE v2 tags some time ago.

They're natively supported by any program that (properly) supports Monkey's Audio.

APEv2 tags are also used on MPC, Wavpack, and in some cases, MP3 files.

Hmmm, it's stange because Media Center said it had to redo all the info in the library and then none of the tags showed up in other applications as if the tag info wasn't there.

Also, I noticed that after installing Media Center, the shell extentions for MAC weren't showing up on the right click menu.

I am using MAC 3.97b because I still feel that MAC 3.99 isn't wuite stable enough for me yet.  Could this be the problem - Media Jukebox is using 3.99 and I'm using 3.97b?

Please upgrade your version of Monkey's Audio to the latest.

If you experience problems, report them at the Monkey's Audio site.

yes , they are.

But not read by MC.

Is this a difficult thing to implement?
If not , very welcome.

Edit
I speak about MP3 with APEv2 tags.

MP3 tagging is already messy.  We're worried that by adding APE tags to the fray, we're making even more of a mess for users. (and other developers)

Matt:

I foloowed your advice and uninstalled 3.97, installed 3.99 and it works fine now.  Thanks!

It just seems that the way APE handles it's tags has changed since all the apps I have that use the older APE can't seem to read the tag info (blank fields).

were would I get the latest? 3.99?

The plugin page for MC10 lists 2.0.36 as the latest?

Don't bother with the plugins page for APE.  The latetest encoder and decoder is always included. (currently 3.99 Update 4)

That's the MC version of the encoder plugin.  It uses MAC 3.99 Update 4.

About it , you are very right.

But what about MC just reading APEv2 tags in mp3 if there is some?
