recording streaming audio
« on: May 24, 2004, 05:10:51 am »

Hello,
I am new to MC, so please be patient with me ::)

Is it possible to record streaming audio from RealPlayer with MC's Recorder tool? This is what I already tried to do:
- opened MC's recorder and chose Mixer as recording source.
- opened Windows' mixer and checked Recording and Stereo Mixer in the Recording properties
- started the audio stream (from RealOne)
- clicked on Start in MC's recorder

Although I do hear the audio through my loudspeakers, the L/R levels on the Recorder stay at zero, and the resulting mp3 file is silent.

Am I doing something really silly?
Thanks a lot,
Giuseppe

The only way to do that with MC is to connect the output to the input on your sound card with a cable.

Works for me
I have Live! card and use XP's drivers as they work better than Creative's
In Recorder I get to use SB Live Wave and Mixer
In Windows Record Control I select Wave
To set up the Recorder Options I use the auto setting and keep adjusting Windows Record Control until I get an "In the ball park" level - the cut off between too loud and too quiet is over fussy so I just get any level that works then later adjust it by looking at the level meters (bars)
Really, that's much what you said, giusb!
Possibly it's just the level in Windows Record Control that is your problem.
That's all refering to using Web Media Radio stations as my streaming input.

Ah! Not so fast!

Using Radio Stations, the ones MC describes as WMA or MP3 do record OK for me without using a cable

But

The ones MC describes as RAM don't!

Perhaps if you try recording a stream that is not from Real you would be able to record that and then (once you knew that your setup was working) you could investigate the RAM side of things further

Some recent builds of MC did have problems with RAM stuff, I believe.
(I'm using 140)
