They load 1by1, quickly, but i would like them to pop up VERY quickly. I thought htye used to before i added more to my library. Is there anyway to fix this? Increase memory to the program? I do hae 1gig of ram.. any help. If increasing memory to the program, how do u do that, i am drawing a blank

local. 7200rpm 200gig. i only have like 20gigs on the drive used though.

Unlike in standard mode, thumbnails are not cached in Theatre View so each time you load a view scheme MC has to rebuild the Thumbnails.

I've suggested that Thumbnail caching be implemented - hopefully it will be considered for v10.  I also suggested this:

If it's slow, try to isolate the slow part.  It's possible a certain view scheme is slower than it should be.

What CPU speed do you have, and how many files are in your MC library?

I was just testing with King's 135,000 file library, and thumb building is quite fast.

It makes me think maybe there's something special about your setup or library if it's too slow.

Any more hints would be great.

I have about 7gigs of music. probably 80ish albums right now. I am running a shuttle system with the AMD 2600+ cpu. built in graphics card. 1gig of ram, 200gig hd. I am not sure what else you would like to know.
It seems to be all the view schemes w. thumbnail that have to build. It takes about 2 seconds or so to fill in all the boxes with art

Are they cached permanently or is it per MC session or maybe even Theatre View session.  I'm at work now so can't try it.  You did tell me this once before but when I tried it (i.e. wait for thumbs to build then go back and re-enter the VS) it was clear that MC was rebuilding them because it took so long.

Thumbnails are stored on disk.  They're only created once.  The only exception would be if you're connecting to Media Server.  Make sure your library directory is on a fast drive. (not a network drive)

Determining what thumbs to load and draw happens each time Theater View is shown.  This should be pretty fast though.

Two seconds for the whole view to draw with thumbs doesn't seem that bad.  Is it taking a lot longer than that, or do you think two seconds is too long?

i would say mine is about 2 seocnds. but i would just think it should be fast? Maybe i am the only one who thinks that, I am not sure. Maybe i need to do some tweak of tags or something to speed up the thumb building. thumbs always have to build even if i go back to a page.

That's the bummer of it for me.  It would be great if thumbnails could be cached in the program files area in future releases so that shared libraries wouldn't suffer the network latency.

Maybe you should write a little batch file to copy the library (*.jmd) to a local folder before launching MC.

Thumbs, cache info (v11), and some other stuff get stored in the library directory.  Having this be as fast as possible will help performance everywhere.

I still have not tried it but I have to admit that I did have my library on a network drive.  Having said that, even just pressing 'page up' would be slow and I would watch teh thumbs rebuilding one by one.  This is what drew me to the conclusion that they were not being cached.  

ah ha...Now I see what you are saying.  They WERE being cached but they were cached on the network drive so it made no difference.  

Can't wait to try it now.

Ok, now I agree with everything you said.  When the library (26000) tracks is on a local drive the thumbs build really quickly.  My apologies.

I still think that you should consider my suggestion about configuring list/thumbnail view in teh view scheme though.  That would be a nice solution.

Maybe MC should complain when loading a network library, so this doesn't happen to other people.
