Just a note from me on the new Document file type support in v11.  I've mentioned this before, but I just wanted to reiterate.  MC would be a godsend for my department if it supported a few other media-related document types (particularly tagging, thumbnails, and "playing" by opening in the native app).  Since it appears that this is the plan, I just wanted to put my 2 cents in on what document types I would like to see supported (in rough order of preference).

1.  PSD (Photoshop)
2.  PDF
3.  Adobe Illustrator
5.  Macromedia Freehand
6.  Adobe InDesign
7.  EPS or plain-vanilla PS
8.  Macromedia Flash
9.  I assume this is probably already done, but MS Office types.

Now possibly you intend to support basically ALL document types somehow.  If this is the case, someone just smack me.  If not, those are the ones I would love to see.

That stuff, and a (wish, wish, wish) Mac OSX version and I would be in heaven.

The current version may be close now, depending on your needs.  It should launch whatever app is associated with the file type when you double click on the file.  Import may not work if we don't have the file type in our list, but that's easy for us to add.  Viewing internally would depend on whether we can build or buy a reader for the file type.

Hi JimH,

just a question: Are you planning to write back tags to Office files?

Would it be possible for users to add file types themselves?  I'm not sure I'd need internal viewing, but thumbnails would be nice - Compupic Pro does it, but I'm not sure how - maybe via OLE?

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the vocabulary check.  My French is bad, as Christian can verify, but that doesn't stop me if I have a beer or two.

Well, not so bad. At least good enough to order a nice cold beer ! ;)

A la tienne Jim !

Oh BTW, I've just installed 11.05, and as a first impression I like the tiles view. It's even very useful for a media only MC. Like others I'd like to be able to customize the displayed fields. But, well, this is only alpha release so we have time to discuss the matter.
