By definition lossless compression formats should have no differences in sound.  ;)

As an aside, can you even decompress those lossless WMA files?

Yes  to wav with MJ

I spoke about the sound because until now ALL Windows formats have a kind of feedback.Like a tape player in the bathroom

If it souds like a tape player in the bathroom - why do you even use it at all.

Actually - Ive never had a tape player in the bathroom

Actually - whats a 180g guru like yourself doing with a tape player anyway.

I had a tape player in the bathroom long ago .
I also played guitar in the bathroom. The sound you get with this echoe /feedback is great. Like in a tube station . Electric guitar i mean.

APE rules, yes .But it is not for me ,i have to much music to put on my computer.
Few thousands LPs ,few hundred tapes and maybe 2000 cds.
I play loto .If i win i will pay someone to rip all of it......

Hi Zev,

Quote
wma ==190.568 MB
APE==189.100 MB

Then APE won by a margin of  1.468 MB !

But the fantastic thing about this side by side comparison is that the creator of APE himself,
posted a reply in this thread ! We're expecting WMA 9 creator contribution now ! :)

I have an old radio set in my bathroom and you're right this morning it sounded like
WMA when I heard on the news that Billy the kid wanted to invest in the "futuroscope" in Poitiers
did you know that Zev ?

(For the sake of clarity; the "futuroscope" is an amusement park in France dedicated to
new multimedia technologies like 3D cinemas and entertainment stuff)

One tree Hill - U2

Playing it now - brilliant.

Anyway when i started with all this digital stuff i thought iwas all pants (rubbish) etc

Then after a while it seemed to get better.

Okay so then i ripped all of my CD collection to .mp3 at 192 and it was okay. Then i discovered that 256 was so much bette that i done it alll again.

Then i discovered that 320 revealed much more of the imaging that was missing that i dione it all again.

Guess what - ive now iscovered that .ape HQ just goes further that i'm doing it all again, again.

I have also re-ripped all of my vinyl to .ape  - well nearly all and am now trying to get the rest of my system in shape.

Monkeys rule - Storeage is cheap compared to ANYTHING.

Stop Fuc!"$g aroung and go APE.

I have a tower and 350 giga ,room for another 3 or 4 drives more .
Even with it ,i would not have enought room.
Beside this i have all around me ,computer and stereo . So i do use a lot the stereo ,not the computer.
I have Emusic and other places with mp3 ,i use p2p a lot- to get on mp3 what i have on lp-, it means that i cannot have one day only APE on my computer.
I use APE when i get cds from friends. Straight to APE . After listening, some deleted ,some on 192 kps and some on APE. But the ones i keep on APE ,i buy the record  at 90 % of the time.
I see a computer more like a walkman ,very convenient if not as good as the stereo.
And the day when a computer will be as good as a good cd player ,tape player or turnable is not next week in my opinion.
Music on computer is sub standart ,as hamburger and Stabuck coffe.
Ok ,it is just my opinion ,but i agree with it.
Having still your turnable ,one day try a 180 grs. In London you can find them in sale from 4 pounds.
Take an english one ,not a US...and tell me

Okay i take your point.

i'm in London every week - so on the next visit i'll but some new Vinyl.

I'll Rip it to .ape as well as .mp3 and you will hear the difference.

Vinyl is the best - but i'm getting lazzy.

Not sure, i did APE fast  and it toke 3 minutes less than wma,in this case it is half the time.
If you set APE to a quality taking 3 minutes more o rip ,you get smaller size  than with fast.

I know about  'Futuroscope ' ,i was surprised cause i was sure it was a great great success.
Anyway ,what you see with Windows is what you saw with Christianity, everywhere, anywhere at any cost

Pople like Bill  have a messianic feeling. I am serious right now.

'The Joshua Tree'
They last listenable album ,since then drama
Yes i know ,they last from last year is not bad ,DOES NOT MEAN IT IS| GOOD.

But when a bricklayer starts to think he is the messia ...no good
