any CDDB tagger for APE or other lossless?
« on: May 22, 2004, 09:12:45 pm »

It seems that all programs out there that rip/tag any sort of
lossless format supported by MC, eg APE, don't use gracenote CDDB, which seems
to be the best source for tagging classical disks with composers, etc. Anyone know of
a solution? thanks

Have you tried using The Godfather?
It will get info from AMG and if the CD is there you get all info imported to your selections.

It's what I am using to tag APE and APL files.

Now, if they have good classical coverage, I do not know.

The problem is that AMG, All Music Guide, does *not* contain
classical stuff, they have a seperate All Classical Guide site for that which
most AMG parsers don't work with (i think Godfather was one where a post
on a forum indicated it didn't work with it and no imminent plans to do so),
same issue with Tag&Rename, etc.   Winamp&QCD  both use CDDB and have plugins that'll rip to APE but they don't pass the tags along to the APE file.

Helium 2 may eventually be the answer, it uses gracenote CDDB but doesn't yet support APE (only APE tags on other formats).

If you give the developer some direction he is happy to make the app compatible.

Take a look at this and see if this is the info you'd like.
If so, it should be present shortly. If not, you might want to add your 2 cents.
