Bug? Playing files from handheld
« on: June 07, 2004, 07:45:40 pm »

I have an ihp-120 and when the player is connected to the computer it shows as drive f.  If I select a song from the player and hit the play button everything works fine, but if I double click on the file instead, I get  a message "MC can not play files from this handheld device."

Bug?  Using build 10.0.144

This will be fixed in the next build of MC 10.

SteveG,

I haven't been on the forum for a while. So I could not report the problems I had with my iHP-140.
I upgraded to 145 and I must say that a few of those irritating bugs were gone:
  • MC is accesible when uploading to handheld;
  • MC no longer crashes during upload proces;
  • Uploading occurs now per file;
  • No irritating uploadscreen over every window.
Offcourse there are still improvements that can be made like:
  • Retagging filenames from properties takes an enormous amount of time;
  • During this proces MC asks a lot of questions which prevent this proces from being done at night;
  • A better way to handle duplicate files.
For the iRiver owners, there is a new database management tool and firmware for the device. I'm trying it now.  :D

Which process? Retagging filenames from properties?

What bothers you about the current way?

Hi SteveG,

I will try to explain what I mean and also give a few things that are on my wishlist to fix/repair/enhance.

- Retagging filenames from properties takes too much time. Problem is also that it asks very frequently during the proces if a file should be overwritten. Maybe this can be prevented by a switch I don't know. Why does it take so much time.

- What is the policy of MC10 regarding duplicate files. I have many duplicate files on my iHP-140. Would like to be able to have options to overwrite when the bitrate is higher or lower. Per song or for all songs  at the same time.

- Switching views in MC is very slow. This is not only a handheld thing but MC in general. Especially if I swith to a folder with lots of files.

- Would like to be able to add more files for conversion on the fly. Now I need to wait until the uploadproces is finished;

- Would like to be ably to look at my handheld like it was my PC. I mean the view with artist and albums that would be great.

- Some more information about which files will and will not be copied to the handheld.

- A way to stop the upload and continue later (with possible removal of the handheld).

I have a few more things in my mind but I will share those later!
