Install Problem with Media Center 10
« on: June 23, 2004, 04:20:22 pm »

Hi,

I've had no problems at all running Media Center 9.
Every time I install the latest version of 10, however, it will crash after a few minutes with a "Media Core" error.

Any ideas anybody, please??

Make sure you have the latest MC 10, and disable any 3rd party plugins.

Does it give any kind of message before crashing?

I've had the same problem. In my case it would sometimes crash When using the directx host plugin. On some builds it works fine. but it happenned with the latest build 10.0149 for me too. :'(

Gargh. It's the very latest build.
It happens when I scan my "music" folder to import media into the library. Every time.

No third party plug-ins.
Bah.
Any ideas, please??
 ?

I was about to buy the software as I liked the trial I had of Media Center 9 so much and it worked beautifully...

Every time I've had any problems after changing versions, I always do a complete uninstall, delete all files in C:\Program Files\J River, and then re-install, and re-import.

It always seems to have worked for me...

I tried installing version 10.0.146 (which I have on my laptop without any problems) but still get the same problem on my home pc...

It says that there is a problem with Media Core and then gives the following error details...

AppName: media jukebox.exe    AppVer: 10.0.146.0    ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1217    Offset: 0003381b

I really want to resolve this so I can purchase the software  :'(

Hmmm...I've tried all that - still no joy.
It seems to be having a problem with my ntdll.dll.
What's all that about??

And why is it fine on mt other computer?
Hmm.

Are both of the machines at the same patch level? ie. has one got SP1 and/or windows updates on it, and the other not? (I'm assuming you're running XP on both)

When you re-install, make sure your anti-virus software (you DO have AV software dontcha?) is disabled while installing, maybe it's interfering with some file copying (I have Norton AV 2004, and it's never caused dramas, but it's worth a try).

Does it seem to gag on a particular file it's importing? Maybe there's a corrupt MP3 or something...

If it happens on import, there a file or file(s) are causing it.  Try importing half the files at a time (then dividing the half that didn't work and repeating) until you find it.  We'd like to see the file if you find it.

You could also try importing only single file types (wav, etc).

Nah - it didn't just happen when importing files (which number about 3500). Just playing a couple of files it would happen after a few tracks as well.

I fixed it (in a rather half-arsed way, admittedly...)

I installed a working Media Center 9. Then I imported my library. Then I installed the latest version of 10. And now all is sweetness and light. Bizarre...
