Bitrate Conversion for iPod
« on: June 24, 2004, 12:05:38 am »

I have been ripping my CD's to MP3 using --alt-preset extreme encoding.  I've gotten to the point now where my collection no longer fits when I sync my iPod.  I figure that is no problem I'll just use bitrate conversion and compress the files as I sync my iPod.

From what I can tell this does not seem to be working.  I'll be the first to admit I may be doing something wrong.  However, the process seems pretty straightforward.  After I sync I view the MP3's on the iPod and the bitrate is the same as the files on my harddisk.

Is there a non-obvious step I am missing?  Thanks for any help

I'm running 10.0.149.

bigfoot,

If you have files already on your iPod and you try to sync with the conversion enabled, MC recognizes the files are already there and does not resend them. If you want converted files on your iPod, first delete the higher bitrate files from iPod and resync so that the files convert.  If you are sending files that are not on the iPod, they should convert unless you have the checkbox for 'Skip conversions of the same filetype' enabled in the Handheld Options dialogue.

Excellent.  Thanks SteveG.  It was first deleting all the files that I missed.
