Zev,

Yeah...I hated to move. Had a big house sitting on 30 acres (about 1/8 km2), 2 acre pond, and 200+ year old oak trees all around. Had 2 neighbors and they were a couple thousand feet away 8). The drive to work stunk though....it took a whole minute to get there!

Speaking of Israel....have you heard the Desmond Decker song "Israelite"? If not then you gotta. I think it was the finale tune in "Drugstore Cowboy".

Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, but with a job that regularly takes me from St Kilda to Shetland, from the Orkney Isles to the Outer Hebrides, from Glasgow to Aberdeen.

Desmond Dekker's "Israelite' was a huge hit in the UK, around the early 70's, I think, and was adopted, somewhat bizzarely, as the anthem for the (often violent) skinhead or 'bovver boy' youth movement of the day. This was a fashion that was subsequently taken over by the facist/racist English Nation Front movement. Strange eh?

It was also used as the theme tune for an advert for Vitalite Margarine with the word Israelite changed to Vitalite...

Listening to: 'Israelites - Desmond Dekker' from 'Absolutely The Best Of Reggae Volume 1' by 'Various Artists - Fuel 2000' on Media Jukebox

For the first time i tried to understand the words ,not that easy so i found them on the net

Home : >>>MORE Desmond Dekker and the Aces : THE ISRAELITES

I get up in the morning slaving for bread sir,
So that every mouth can be fed,
Oooh, oooh mi Israelites.
Mi wife an' ma kids them a pack up an'a leave me,
"Darling" she said "I was yours to be seen",
Oooh, oooh mi Israelites.

Cho! shirt dem a tear-up trousers a go,
I don't wan' to end up like Bonny and Clyde, [ie, full of holes]
Oooh, oooh mi Israelites.

After a storm there must be a calm,
You catch me in your farm, you sound your alarm,
Oooh, oooh mi Israelites.

Look like what he means id that he has all the troubles, all the problems like the israelites.
In this case i do not think there is a need for an I-christians,mulsemins,israelites.

I'am sure that it takes this from the christian culture and not from history[pogrom ,death camps\]

Anyway with the state of Israel, there is not anymore israelites as Demond Dekker used it

Te skinheads at the start listened to Ska-a kind of pre-reggea- by black jamaicans
Youngs from the english working class,no racist,no facist but not violence free.
Latter on ,hooligans,neo-nazis,racists tooke this mouvement as they own.

And was RedSkin=skinhead on the left.My  arms  still have scars from fights against skins.
Beleive me or not ,most of the scars came from saw blade....

Do you have a web cam set up in the nose bleed seats?
Everytime I look at the Lambeau image it is darker as if the sun were setting.

Whaaazzzzupp wid it?

Can't you put one down on the ground (looking up) in the immediate vicinity of the Packerette's?

Yup, it's a webcam.  Walking into Lambeau Field is a moving experience.  The pic does it no justice.

No cheerleaders there.  That's one problem with the clean attitude up in Green Bay.

I gotta ask--if you want to see cheerleaders, why is your picture of an Oriental girl?

Scronch >> No cheerleaders there

It's a sad thing....Steelerettes disbanded in 1970 (I believe).

update > Reason: Some Hawaiian guy (Koko No No) was dating the head cheerleader. She wanted to start a family with him. Problem was.....so did all the other cheerleaders. Cat fighting broke out. Hair was pulled, faces were scratched, and fingernails were broken. End result?...end of Steelerettes :'(.

Only the dissolution of the Beatles was more traumatic to this great nation at that time.

>>I gotta ask--if you want to see cheerleaders

I don't care if they're there or not

>> why is your picture of an Oriental girl?

'Cause Kasumi's my girl. Just look at this. I've got great things planned for her.

Besides, I've been a Bears fan for a long time. Unfortunately, being out here on the West coast, I don't get to see 'em much anymore. Most of the people here are either 9'ers or Raiders fans and those Raider dudes are pretty rabid.

England, Kettering, Northamptonshire.

Desmond Dekker's Israelite thingy was one of the worst songs ever written. It's one of those songs that, as soon as you hear the first few bars, you know the rest of it is gonna seriously get on yer nerves. Then, you can't stop thinking of it for the next few days until someone reminds you of it again. Another song in a similar vein was the awful Esther and Abi Ofarim 'Cinderella Rockefeller'. Now I'll be singing that monstrosity for the next few days!!! One of those songs that really gets on yer nerves is 'One of those songs' etc, I think, by Nat King Cole.

Hoping you're all humming these wonderful tunes to your yourselves, I'll wish you goodnight from merry England.

Israelites -- gawd I hate that song.

xen - Nope, I watched the game from the couch tonight.  I'll be up there for the 12/8 Vikings game.  Heaven help me if the Packers lose to those bums.

I should've fired up the turkey cooker and fried up some Dolphin.  Would've gone good during the game.  I just cleaned the whole thing up from frying a 12 lb turkey for friends Saturday night.  Injected with homemade marinade prepared with fresh lemons, including the peel.  Mmmmm.

Do you know of others?

I have to assume that there is only one since mankind will NEVER be able to prove there are others (and by definition, there can be no others). So in scale and in name, the Universe is as "macro" and "singular" as it gets.

According to Jet Li's "The One", there is 32 other universes (parallel), but they were never named.

Scientific American had a neat article on "Multiverses".

See Universe defined

Yes, that is a different universe.

There are many ways to imagine multiple universes.  For instance, some based on higher dimensions, or some running in parallel.  My favorite is the theory of fragmented universes.  Our universe's big bang may not be a one-time event; the matter could, or may have in the past, be drawn back together for another later bang.  No bang is ever fully symmetric, so it is likely (possibly required) that some matter will escape the subsequent collapse.  There are scenarios where groups of such matter continue on, and collapse upon themselves, thus becoming separate universes.  Our universe, in fact, may be such a sub, or sub-sub, or sub-sub-sub-...-sub-universe.  At this time, there is no way to tell.  But your statement "since mankind will NEVER be able to prove there are others" reeks of being proven wrong.  Maybe not in our lifetimes, though.  Now, if you insist that the universe contains everything, everywhere, by your definition, then you are simply no fun.  But that is consistent, as you are a STEELERS fan.

So much for zevenglish...

Lets talk about dimensions or doplegangers. Or is reality like a bowl of mixed nuts. No one is right and no one is wrong, all is about personal perspectives.  Space is like the deepest depths of the ocean, one never knows what and if there is life there without exploring. It might be next door or beyond our reach, only technology can answer that with the aid of time.

Take a look at the time we spent moving up the ladder from the earliest recorded time. the last 100 years or less have been the fastest, it is as if human advancment is exponential, after all we are making leaps and bounds at a faster rate than ever before. Example, only 6-7 years ago a PC with a 486/66 processor was fast, now we are pusing the door on 3 gigs. or for that mater a HD of 450-500 MB was big and now we are talking about 200+ GIG..

My question is this, scientists say that space is infinit, Ienstien once said that if you travel through space in a straight verticle and horizontal line you would eventualy end up were your started from, if this is true then is space infinit or it curves to another form of thinking.

Between two wooded ridges in Knox County in central Ohio. Two neighbors are at least a  half mile away to the east and the west. Have a 1000 or more acres of woods to roam on the north and south. Drive to work takes five minutes and I usually pass an Amish buggy and two pickups. Would take less but I have to open two gates because my lane passed through my Amish neighbor's horse pasture. Have my own gas well for free natural gas and live off the land a lot with deer a garden and Amish produce we can and freeze.

Scronch > There are many ways to imagine multiple universes

You said it...imagine

Why is that Packer fans don't like clicking on links?

The universe defined:

Something either does or does not exist. If it exists, it is included in the set labeled 'UNIVERSE'. If it does NOT exist, it is not in the set.

You cannot have more than one Universe. By definition, anything which would reside outside of the 'Universe' would 'Exist', and therefor be IN the set.

It is unfortunate most physicists and astonomers refer to the 'Known Universe' as the 'Universe'. The Universe if infinite. The observable portion which is within the grasp of our senses with the aid of technology is - literally - infinitesmal.

To misuse the true definition of the term 'Universe' retards the search for truth and understanding of the nature of the Universe.

The definition of the word 'Universe' is simply "all which exists".

Mind you...I'm not saying it's impossible for other "universes" to exist...we just have no way of ever proving they do...and we can't use the word universe to describe them. So I stand 110% behind my "there is only one since mankind will NEVER be able to prove there are others" statement.

The most religous person in the world can't prove God exists...the most atheistic person can't prove he doesn't exist.

Scronch > by your definition, then you are simply no fun.

I defined the universe...not myself. I'm tons of fun & promise to be a riot after the Steelers clean the Packers clock in '03.

Zev > an early hours posting  tramp?

I'm an all hours posting tramp but I'm not going for any records.

Why not?

Jim > Mais, dites-moi, M. Xen, est-ce que tu est l'animal de la nuit?

Nice translation, although at first I thought you were calling me a crazy animal

Xenno

PS: Scronch....If you really insist on there being more than one universe, then we'll have to rename this one. I was thinking along the lines of "Heinz Field". Well....whadda ya think?

JJ (better change the moniker!)

........commiserations old boy. I really wouldn't like to have to go through something like that. Mind you, with 2 teenage daughters at home I'm almost always skint myself so I could probably handle that part OK....

Africa is well.............getting more African all the time....the Zimbabwe land grabs are making us rather edgy.

Local farmer joke: South Africa, where the men are men and the sheep are nervous.....

Loved that python movie...saw it in the West End in 1980 (banned in SA at that time)

Cheers and all the best dude......I'll have a few ales for you tonight

xen, that is a philosophical discussion, no more, no less.  Much like Kierkegaard's dozens of volumes on the existence of God.  Interesting to ponder, but with no impact on reality.  As I said, this is simply a game of word definitions.

Some day, if the Steelers are unlucky enough to meet the Pack, I will email you a sympathy card for the collision resulting in a wrecked bus.  That is, if it ever comes out of the shop from it's current problems.

Everyone agrees that if the "known universe" does not implode, it will continue expanding, and all reactions will eventually cease.  Space will become cold and lifeless.  Obviously, therefore, you must pay your respects by naming the universe THE FROZEN TUNDRA.

Cold and lifeless, like the opponents on their way out of Lambeau...
