Can I add a new device myself
« on: July 06, 2004, 08:50:50 am »

This is probably already a built-in feature I haven't discovered yet.

Can someone tell me how to make a new device in MC10. I would like to create a device for videoclips and also for foto's or other things. But I don't know how ?

This device could in fact be a substitute like used in the old DOS environment. It could point to the directory's where the files are.

Also I'd like to change the order in which devices are listed. Or even remove them If I don't use them.

Isn't there anyone who plays videoclips and has them organized on his PC. And plays them with MC

Is there anyone from JRiver who can tell me this  ?

marko,

I would like to see the videoclip directory as a CD device. If I click on that I would have all my clips.

Now, I have to go to my computer (within MC) and go to the directory where the files are stored. This is also the case for pictures and other types of clips (homevideos).

How do you solve this? Must be possible to do it faster.

You can import video and images into your Media Library just like audio. Then they'll appear under their own view schemes.

I don't get it. There are Video and Images categories under Media Library. Can you hide them somehow?

I have no problems with finding my videos in MC. If I go to Media Library -> Video, they are all there and nothing else. I can also do playlists of them. I have many. The same goes for the images. They are under Media Library -> Images. If you have arranged videos and images to some folder structure they are easily browsed in Advanced -> Hard Disk Location.

Giving Artist and Album name tags to videos and images is also useful. E.g. I give all music album scans (usually I have several for one album) Artist and Album names. When I write the album name to Search MC finds also the image files. If I make an album playlist, which includes the image files MC shows them in a slideshow when playing that playlist.

It would be perfect if MC could populate the Image List in Playing Now automatically when a song from a certain album starts playing.

Edit after cjdshaw's comment:
I understand better if you have not imported them first.

For each video editing project I do I create a playlist group containing separate playlists for the the video, audio and stills I'm using.  The tagging and management processes are identical for all three.

I'm not totally sure what you are after MarSies but try this.
  • right click on media library -> add view scheme
  • click add then scroll to filename and ok it
  • in the base directory box, browse to the root off your videos (e.g c:\video\series\) and ok that
  • click add then select filename (path)
  • tick the populate tree box and your all done
This is how I browse my videos which makes it very easy and works well in Theatre View.

Marseis, i concur with monkeyboy...that's what I do with my video clips, recorded TV programs, video's etc.  I made each a genre as well (ie:  Mr. Bean, Brit Comedy; Red Dwarf (Brit Sci Fi Comedy), Angel ( TV Series - Comedic horror), I think you get the picture. I put them all under my Video branch of the Media Library tree and store all my photo's under images.  so far, haven't encountered any that I haven't been able to play - was worried about Black Adder and Red Dwarf, as they stuttered inWindows, but were excellent. ;D

Monkeyboy,

I guess that's the solution I was looking for. Will try it this weekend.

Is there also a library then for videoclips? That would be cool!!

All what's missing now is a way to rip DVD to clips. Just bought the latest from Cachao (this gut was born in 1915) and it has a CD and DVD. Can MC rip this DVD baby for me?
