Media Center 11.0.22 Alpha (NOT RECOMMENDED)
« on: July 09, 2004, 05:13:13 pm »

We're just starting work on Media Center 11.  From time to time, we'll share our progress.

Think of these early builds like the hole in the ground before you start building a house.  Much like the hole, it's hard to get excited about these builds, and if you're not careful with them, you'll get hurt.

Major changes to allow guest users and side-by-side installs of MC were recently made.  You will lose your MC 10 settings.  Some plugins will not work yet.  Side-by-side installs are not functioning yet.

Please uninstall builds prior to MC 11.0.12 before installing. (no need to uninstall 11.0.12)  As always, backup your library.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110022.exe

11.0.22 (7/9/04)

1. Fixed: Translation engine wouldn't properly readjust menu widths for longer translated strings.
2. NEW: Added right-click recent command count option to Tree & View > Advanced.
3. NEW: Thumbnail sizes and spacing can be customized to any desired size.
4. NEW: Thumbnail text (for track and album lists) can be fully customized.
5. NEW: All thumbnail options can be configured on a per-view basis.
6. NEW: Unified view customization and thumbnail settings to single "Customize Current View" tool.

I didn't get the chance to reply to the multimedia keys question before it was locked, but under 11.0.21 and 11.0.22 the kb and MC volume controls seem to act independently - e.g. I set the MC control to max volume but I can still increase it with the kb. Also, the MC slider doesn't respond to the kb control.  The other controls are fine.  OS - XP Pro SP1

While tagging an album's files using the A/W for tagging, MC refused to accept the change (it allowed me to select a different Artist name, but as I left the artist tag box it 'snapped back' to the old name).

After another try or two it accepted the tags, but when I renamed the files from properties, the original tags (and filename) were back.

On the next attempt, MC went POOF! and was gone.

Upon re-starting MC, all the changes were there . . .that had taken!
Perhaps the tags/filenames had actually changed but the display was actually what was unchanged?  Thus my attempt to change it again caused the error/crash?? Perhaps caching causes this?

OK, I will stop guessing   ;)

From 11.0.21 thread:
Quote
7. Fixed: MC could cover an auto-hidden taskbar on startup. (hopefully fixed -- let us know)

Was better.  Fine for a while.  Now broken again (same instance of MC, running all day).

Just did a restore/maximize toggle, and now the taskbar comes back.

Thought i'd give 11 a go, I like some of the changes.
Now that we can change the thumbnail layout, if the gap under the thumbnail is set large enough, can it be made so it automatically puts in another line of text.

At the moment I can only just fit the name of some songs in. This would also be very useful for Theatre view.

Cheers,
Rich

After installing MC since version 8 on my PC and after installing version 11.0.22. I now have 4 directories under C:\Program Files\JRiver.
These directories are Media Center, Media Center 11, Media h and Media Jukebox.
They all have subdirectories, some the same, some different.
Can you give me any clue on how to clean up this 'mess' and still have a good working program.

Backup Library and playlists...

Uninstall all Media Center/Jukebox apps.

Delete the folders oin J River.
Run Norton WinDoctor if you have, or any other registry cleaner.
Reinstall MC 11.0.xx

**Note** This worked for me and I have no problems, I am not saying that this will work for everybody..

If you are using xp then enable Sys Restore.

Audio Analysys

When analyzing audio it used to show the %complete (per track) and show the results.
This build no longer does this. Also the status bar doesn't move.

It works for me too. Thanks.
To be sure I made a backup of all the directories and files in the old JRiver directory.
Now what to do with all the plugins and other stuff for MC I downloaded and installed in the past (extra skins, visualizations, track-info templates, Playing Now, Album View, DFX, Coverart Finder, Lyrics Finder)?

Skins, Copy and paste to C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\MegaSkins
Vis, Out in the applicable folder as with Track Info's

Plugin's, you will need to reinstall these. Get the exe's and hold on to them until the Plugins get fixed. (this build will not take plugin's)

Just came across this:

Mc11.0.22 crashes once I enter my screen saver password. It's not doing anything, just sitting idle. Re-tested several times and it's always the same.

Not sure if this of any value, but MC was always sitting in Document mode when the screen saver kicked in.

matt

like the thumbnail options however ive noticed that in

view > customise current view > sorting

when i move something to the top or bottom of the queue and continue to press up/down it comes up with an error message "invalid argument encountered". how about just removing that.

pip

[edit: save this view for location and sublocation only saves it for current location]

One of my views keeps auto width fitting the columns even though this setting is turned off in the options... If I go into tagging mode it resets back to normal but then if I navigate to another view and come back the columns are auto widthing again...  Its driving me insane :)  Apart from that I love some of the new developments.  Nice Work.  I even have this running on my stable machine now :)

Import is still importing (searching) folders it has not been told to look in (My Pictures etc).

Is it possible to set a default size and text for all the images accross the whole library in options?
Having to set it per scheme is a bit of a pain when i know how I want it for 90% of my vs's and would just then want to change manually the 10% i want it different for.

This was answered above, but I thought I'd post this info with the registry keys as well.

Removal:
  • Backup your library.
  • Uninstall all Media Centers.
  • Remove leftover folders / files manually.
  • Erase HKCU\Software\J River and HKLM\Software\J River. (erasing BuyButton keys will make it so you need to restore your license)

Installation:
  • Reinstall the latest.
  • Restore your library.

I can't reproduce.  Double-check the list of folders you're telling MC to search.  Give more details if that doesn't clear it up.

Use the "Save View" button on the same dialog.

Is it only when using the new tile view?

Does switching screensavers make any difference?

Can anyone else reproduce this?

Thanks.

I tried removing MC as well as the registry entries and folders as suggested, however after a re-boot and reinstall MC will not run.
Instead I get the splash screen then nothing.
When I look at the Task Manager MC is listed in the running processes, and by it's fluctuating CPU load percentage I can tell it is trying to do something, yet the interface will not appear (even after more than 5 minutes)
I also tried another clean install using MC11.021 with the same results.
Any ideas??

Mine does this as well, but it is because I have the "Fix or remove broken links" checkbox checked.  I have some media files in other directories than the one I usually import from...  So in my case, it's working as it should be working.

darkAngelChild, could this be the cause of what you are seeing?

Now I've successfully upgraded to MC11 which (and where) directories in MC11 need to be backed up?

I wanna get the images and the actual DB, is there anything else?

Thanks! :)
