Media Center 11.0.28 Alpha Available
« on: July 15, 2004, 04:43:59 pm »

We're just starting work on Media Center 11.  From time to time, we'll share our progress.

Think of these early builds like the hole in the ground before you start building a house.  Much like the hole, it's hard to get excited about these builds, and if you're not careful with them, you'll get hurt.

When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your settings.  Some plugins will not work yet.

Please uninstall builds prior to MC 11.0.12 before installing. (no need to uninstall 11.0.12)  As always, backup your library.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110028.exe

11.0.28 (7/15/04)

1. Fixed: Setup completion utility could crash when finalizing setup after a restart.

11.0.27 (7/15/04)

1. Fixed: On fresh install, toggling scrollbars for Track Info page could cause the page to be replaced by an error page.
2. Changed: Handheld plugins installed for Media Center 9.1 / 10 will also show up in Media Center 11.
3. Fixed: Sort items removed from Customize Current View dialog could reappear after an "Apply" in some cases.
4. Fixed: Cover Art for individual files could not be retrieved by Theater View, Album View, or other programs using the SDK.
5. NEW: Added basic image editing.  Select an image and pick Tools > Image > Edit Image... from the menu. (still a work in progress)

11.0.26 - Hiding out in JRiver's cellar.

11.0.25 (7/14/04)

1. Fixed: Media Server would not read the database.
2. Changed: Reordered "Add Folder" menu in Import to make "Browse..." quicker to get to.
3. Changed: MC no longer uses the ID3v1 album for the band field when the ID3v2 tag doesn't contain a band.

Image editing - "scroll image by mouse" degrades the image very badly, textstamp and optimise don't do anything.  Image editing option is available for video, but crashes MC.

Option to change list style isn't available.

Am getting an install error in Finalizing Setup...
"Source: C:\Program Files\Media Center\Setup\JROptionsHelper.dll
Destination: C:\WINDOWS\system32\JROptionsHelper.dll"

But other then that, MC seems to be working ok.

Also, I thought that a Windows restart was no longer required but the last two versions that I have installed required a restart.

While we are on the subject, how 'bout we stop cluttering up the system32 directory altogether, hmmm?  Please?  I hate system bloat.

It's not necessary, you know.

Microsoft MSDN article and another MSDN article  (okay, they both contain the same verbiage, but technically, they are two separate references ;))

Tim,
iPod should work.

Doc,
If you downloaded in the first half hour today, please try again.  We fixed a minor problem.

Tim,
iPod should work.
Not here, MC doesn't give me a Format option on my iPod, tells me that the iPod plugin I d/l'd from MC is not for version 10 and when I try to synchronize I get "Media Center was unable to initialize the desired handheld.  Check that it is plugged in and turned on"...it is.  Then MC11 crashes.

I can see the iPod in the device list but that's about it.

Don't download a plugin.  Use the plugin that gets installed when you install MC 11.

Both the Deskbar and MC use a core component "JROptionsHelper" to deal with any settings.

Since the Deskbar is always running, it makes it so MC installs can't easily update it.

We'll sort this out in a coming build.  Until then, disable Deskbar, restart Windows, and then install will work as expected.

Thanks.

Bugs:
  • Recently Imported icon is broken
  • Shell integration is not working. "Play in MC" is present but other expected menu items are not.

Not here it didn't, that's why I went for the plugin, how can I uninstall the plugin I added?

If you select ASIO for output and your machine can not do that, It will crash MC,
When restarted it will keep trying to play the tracks... Getting into Options takes a while as you have to wait till it goes through all the tracks.

Image editing - "scroll image by mouse" degrades the image very badly,
When the program opens, it displays the entire image. Scrolling is needed only when the window shows a portion of the image, which happens after you have zoomed in. Could it be possible that the image degradation you saw was just due to zooming in too deeply?

Quote
textstamp and optimise don't do anything.

When you click textstamp button, you should get a window for text input. You type in your text in that window and the text should show up in a box on top of the original image, initially at the upper-left corner. You can drag the box to relocate it anywhere, resize it by dragging its edge, and click outside the box to finalize the stamp.

Did you see any portion of what I describe here?

About Optimize, maybe you did not see any effect because your image was already in optimized state. Sometimes the changes are subtle. Try an image that is, say, too dark for example.

All of these things worked as described for me in the photo editor.

Although, I'm not sure how much I will use this as I already have photo editors on my pc.  The one click optimize is nice though.
