Registration questions
« on: July 14, 2004, 01:01:48 am »

Hi;
Well, i completed my purchase after re-downloading Media Center, but have a question about the registration that was sent along.  Can someone please point me to the thread or instructions where it is explained what i need to do after my two-week initial period is up?  Thanks for the help

Check the FAQ thread near the top of this board.

When you purchased MC it should have installed your registration information.  Check help>about to see if you're registered.  If you are not then save the .mjr file that came with the email and double click it to register MC.  The file is valid for 2 weeks.  If it expires you can visit the restore page to get another one.

Thanks, JLee.........
it did (i think i remember a box that confirmed this) register me when i purchased Music Center.  I'll check out the thread you mentioned.  Just wondering, though, does this mean that every 2 weeks i have to re-register??

Gday!

The registration file remains active for 2 weeks. Once registered, MC remains registered until you uninstall it, or remove it's registry entries etc.

When you buy a license, you get a set number of "restores" per year (I'm not sure how many).

For example, if you re-install you operating system, you can re-install MC, then "restore" your license, and install it within the two week "life" of the registration file, and everything is sweet again.

I can't imagine MC being super-popular if we had to re-install it every 2 weeks 8-)

(that would mean that I would've had to re-install about 50 or 60 times!!!)

No, you don't have to re-register every 2 weeks. The key code itself is valid for 2 weeks. If you don't get MC registered in that period, you have to get a fresh key code. I assume this for security reasons.

Unless you upgrade your HD or have a HD failure or some other disaster, or just want to install MC in a new computer you shouldn't have go thru the registration process again.

Thanks, all, for the help.  I've checked under the "Help" tab in MC, and it shows that I am registered and displays the code.  So.......according to what you all have replied, i'm good to go and don't have to worry about the two weeks anymore.  I appreciate the support!
