Feature Request: Media Server As Windows Service
« on: July 21, 2004, 09:09:25 am »

I could not find a thread on this but I was wondering if support of the Media Server as a windows service was in the works.  It would be a really great addition to an already great product.

Thanks!

It isn't, but others have used freeware/shareware programs that can make any app a service.  Try download.com.

Ok Jim, thank you.  I shall use good old srvany.exe.

For anyone looking, here is a download of it:

http://www.haxial.com/faq/mswinservice/srvany.zip

Normally it comes in the windows resource kit.

It will allow the media server to run without having someone logged in.

Would love to see it in the program someday if possible.

Keep up the good work, I am currently streaming music from my home machine over ssh from work.  Good stuff!!

I tried this and it works great for running the tivo publisher application as a windows service.  however, I don't see how I can actually start the server other than from an open application.  Has anyone else tried this?  Would be nice to not have to leave my pc logged in for the sake of the media server (my pc is upstairs, tivo is downstairs). Thanks in advance.
