DVD Playback - How?
« on: July 25, 2004, 03:27:08 pm »

I am trying to playback ripped DVDs I have on my 1 TB media server.  I have read the instructions and boards here, but have only seen where Media Center will play DVDs from an Optical Drive - not files ripped to the Hard Drive.  I have over a TB of music and videos I have ripped and organized - all legal - thanks.  I have read similar posts from other others, but never saw a helpful repsponse.

I tried to import the DVD files, but Media Center does recognize the format.

How can I watch my ripped DVDs that reside on my media server through Media Center 10.0?

If you ripped the disc as ISO files, you can get a virtual drive tool like Daemon-Tools, load the ISO into that and play it just as you would from a real optical drive.  Nero also includes a similar tool.

Could you send a set of files you think should work to JRiver?

125 N First St
Minneapolis MN 55401

Please include a note and put it to my attention.  We'll see what we can do.

Any details on how you ripped the files might help.

Thanks,

Thanks for the feedback folks.

1) I did rename the VOB files to MPG and I can now watch the DVDs with Media Center

2)  I simply decrypted my DVDs using DVD Decryptor and saved the files to the server.  I sometimes use DVD shrink if I need to reduce the size to copy to a DVD - though this is not the case with this situation.

3) Thanks Jim for your offer to help.  However, I don’t fully understand your request to send to you the set of files to 125 N First St. Minneapolis MN 55401?  Does this mean you want me to send you a hard drive with the files on it?   I can do that but there would seem to be easier ways to accomplish that – I can give you temporary FTP access.  Sorry for my confusion.

I would like to simply watch the DVD that has been saved to my server using Media Center.  These are VOB files that have been decrypted.
