Media Center 11.0.46 Alpha Available
« on: July 30, 2004, 04:58:50 pm »

We're just starting work on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your settings.  Some plugins still do not work.

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110046.exe

11.0.46 (7/30/04)

1. Fixed: In some cases, MC could have a 0 by 0 restored window size.
2. Fixed: Quickly clicking a tree plus or non-item area could fire the double-click action.
3. NEW: More experimentation with the animated file view. (to test, hold Alt+3 when going to a Media Library view)
4. Fixed: Action Window "Print File List" didn't properly handle cases where a list in details mode wasn't visible.
5. Changed: Tagging mode now applies desired change after pressing "Enable" on the confirmation dialog, instead of requiring a re-click.
6. NEW: Several image editor improvements and fixes.

Also, a heads up that there were some internal changes for how views are created and layed out.  Ideally you won't see any differences, but be ready for possible bugs.

When installing MC I get the following message.

If I click not to uninstall everything works... Anyway to bypass this as it is not a MC program but a plugin.

Also,

Can you please make the font and background colors for the tool tips customizable?
I like to use the Thunderstorm skin with the thunderstorm WB skin, but I can't see the text for the tool tips... It's the same color as the box...

We'll fix the Cover Art finder bug next build.

Hopefully King will forgive us.

Showing the date and/or pic name is a BIG improvement!

It really makes the whole view clearer.

It needs to be clearer what you can do with the 'selected' pictures versus the unselected.  It looks like the 'bin' is gone.  That's probably a good thing.  The bin needed to have it's own window and the action window isalready there so it makes sense.

Can we scroll through larger versions of the pictures in the action window?   Sort of a larger view of what's been addes to the 'bin'.

Sorry if this was answered before and I missed it, but is it possible to try MC11 without upgrading from MC9 to MC10? Apparently not, since I get a message saying the trial period has ended. I assume that's because I tried MC10 for a while and decided not to upgrade. But how do I know if MC11 is worth upgrading to if I can't even try it out? Will there be an opportunity later on in the cycle?

There are a ton of improvements made... What V are you using now?

With this version, when you move the panes down on the screen then restart MC the panes are reset to high again...

 Couple of quick requests:

    * Since a new backup is created on each import, can we set the number of MAX Backups to retain?
    * [Date (Month #)] Field -- Please ?
    *  Using [Dimensions] (Calculated Field) in a thumbnail view shows "CIRCULAR: Dimensions" instead.
    * Media Server -- Allow us to select which fields are included, if I elimiinate Lyrics/Bios I can reduce the downlaod size by about 80% !!!
    * Full EXIF Parsing Support -- To allow custom field creation from these tags, as well.
    * On Duplicate checking, allow a "Selection~" tag so that I can select the Low Bitrate, or Smallest Filesize, or Oldest File, etc
    * A new version of the SlideShow plugin that works with V11 would be sweet !
    * Auto-Import Functionality (Use Media Scheduler to import basedon the new intelligent import wizard)
    * While I'm at it ... Why not throw my Pie-in-the-Sky request -- CD+G Support Plugin!

What do the following fields mean?
Playback Range
Mix Album
Text

BUGS:
1- When a view uses Album Thumbnails, if you hover over a thumbnail the tooltip will give the correct Album and Artist,
BUT indicates the incorrect number of tracks and disk space.

You will get a message that there are "too many tracks to list" and the number of tracks indicated is for ALL the album thumbs showing instead of only the one you are hovering over.

(i.e. - status bar shows "6 albums, 109 tracks, 675mb", tooltip for ANY ONE thumbnail will report the same.  If you click on one thumbnail the Status Bar will report the correct number of tracks and disk space for that album, BUT the ToolTip still reports the total for all thumbs showing))

2- After making tag and/or filename changes within MC11, when importing files MC reports: "Updating Library to Match External Changes".
Since I use MC for all my tag and filename changes, I cannot understand the message received that there were 'outside changes' to be updated. Could this be caused by MC using a cache?

Suggestions:
1- Change "Image > Quick find in file / cover art directory" so it is NOT case-sensitive

2- Incorporate an empty folder search & removal function as a library Import/Update option.

Just installed 11.0.46 (first v11 release that I tried)

maybe i'm stupid but I can't find any button to change the list style (i.e. list, thumbnail etc..)

it's nowhere in the right click menu and it's nowhere in the drop down menu ?

has this not been implemented yet ?

I'm using MC9, as should be clear from my earlier message (where I talked about upgrading from MC9 to MC11, right?). There may be a ton of improvements, but how do I know if they are worth upgrading without trying them out? If I upgrade to V10 now, will I have to pay to upgrade again to V11? I have not been impressed with V10, so I would not upgrade to it, but might be interested in V11 if it fixes some of my few remaining issues with MC (e.g., OGG tag updating is incredibly slow).

Main frame left and right borders are not working correctly as to previous versions of 11. Restarting MC fixes problem.

Columns aren't remembering the widths I adjust them to.  I have Auto-Size Columns turned off, but when I switch from "Playing Now" to "Audio" and back, the column sizes reset to some predetermined width.

  • clicking on an empty space on the bottom toolbar gives an 'invalid arguement' error.
  • access control search does not stay upon restart.
  • vis studio doesn't save the correct flush color
  • tagging file(s) is really slow while in thumbnail mode.
  • moving file(s) is really slow.
  • unable to open more than one action window playlist at a time for editing. when selecting a playlist, if one is already opened, that playlist does not show. when creating a new playlist, everything shows up just fine.
  • filename (location) loses it's subdirectories in pane view and sometimes in tree view. (ie: can't access sub directories)

i'll probably start a thread on the slow areas soon.

Thanks.

In the animated thumbnails, the exploding dates and file names are difficult to see in the PixOS skin because it's white on white.

The exploding effect of the text is too distracting.

And placing the labels in the center of the screen is inconvenient because that's not where you're looking.  You're looking at the photo, so it'd be good to have labels that appear under each zoomed thumbnail.

I don't mind the zooming label, but maybe it could be moved to the bottom of the screen so it is not layered ove the pictures.

I don't care for the animated icons (the magnification is okay, I just don't like them flying around) or the zooming text.  If it remains, I doubt I would ever use that mode.  However, I really like the "bin" in the AW and would like to use it without all the flashy graphics.

I just tried MC11 for the first time. I've imported all my photos from 2004 and all are displayed correctly in albums except photos taken on 1st January. They appear in an album called 2004 and the date is displayed as 2004 unlike all the other dates I have photos for.

Also, how do you sort the albums into date order when in animated mode?
