ATI Wonder Pro Tuner Problem
« on: August 06, 2004, 03:56:00 pm »

I need help.
My Wonder Pro won't properly detect my cable channels when I use ATIs' Multimedia Center 8.2. When I upgraded to 9.1 the software properly detected the channels but the sound is out of sync with the video. To fix that problem ATI says to select mono mix. The reason I bought this card was for the stero sound. I have tried installing a third party TV application that uses ATIs' WDM drivers and it works well but I don't like the user interface. Any suggestion?

Another note here.
When I use your application the channels are correctly detected but when I try to view them I get the same recsults as the ATI application.
When I select the scan button and the TV channels window comes up, the channel not viewable before is now displayed. When the TV channels window is closed the channel reverts back to not viewable.

This sounds like an ATI driver bug only ATI can fix.

The following has become my standard prescription for tuner problems (but it does not always solve them ;)):

Do you have DirectX 9.0b? Do you use non-NTSC video standard? If you answer yes to both, you may need to install a Miccrosoft hotfix. Search this board for "DirectX 9.0b" and "hotfix" for a link to download the fix from Microsoft.

I had 9.0b but reverted back to 7.0 due to tuning issues even after the hotfix was installed. I also tried the upgated ATI capture driver.
How does your application access kstvtune.ax differently in the TV channels window than in the TV view mode?

7.0 ? Is this a typo?

I think you need DirectX 8 or later for MC TV.

It does not. MC accesses TV tuner via the same DirectShow interface.

I do not know how different (or similar) your card (TV Wonder PRO, right?) is from "TV Wonder", and "TV Wonder VE". If it is based on the same chipset, you might want to try this third party driver:

I think it is simalar to TV Wonder but not Wonder VE. I will try the app. The "Chris TV" app works well with my wonder Pro card but, I don't like the UI it provides.

MMC 9.1 tunes just fine with tuning, but the audio with my Sound Blaster is really bad. The sulution is disabling stereo but stereo is the reason I bought this card! >:(
