iPod: Smartlists - how smart?
« on: August 15, 2004, 10:03:32 pm »

Hi,

If I create a set of smarlists in MC, eg 0 stars, 1 star, 2 stars, etc, then change a song's rating on my iPod, will the song smartly appear in the new smarlist on the iPod?

Or do I need to re-sync with MC for that to work?

And would this work if the smartlists were created in iTunes? I haven't installed iTunes, and don't want to, for fear of messing up my id3 tags.

Yes.

Yes, but not if you then synched to a comparable playlist in MC. There is currently not a way to translate smart (dynamic) iTunes playlists into MC.

Thanks Steve.

Are these dynamic playlists (is that the correct term) for the iPod on the way, or is it impossible due to Apple not letting you guys?

I've been using MC since it was MJ, heck I've even written a plugin for it, so it's long been my fav player. But in a few months I'm going to go travelling so I'll be away from my PC for months or years. Therefore I need dynamic playlists! I'd hate to have to start using iTunes just for that, esp since iTunes doesn't read my MC song ratings.

Matt,

We may add this at some time in the future, but not in the immediate future.

What if we all "pre-paid" you for this? I mean, I am sure you could get alot of owners to pay $5 for this feature.

I'd prefer if MC could do it too. Can't help you on that one though.

However, I can help you on how to get your ratings to iTunes. Create a playlist for each rating (ie All 1-star tracks; all 2-stars tracks ... you ge the picture.) Now load up these playlists in iTunes and rerate them with whatever their rating was.

Have a nice trip!

I justed wanted to add my support for this feature.  This is such an important feature for me that I am using iTunes for managing my iPOD, but would much rather want to use Media Center.

Please, please, please add this feature!
