USB IR transceiver with MC10
« on: August 20, 2004, 08:54:58 pm »

Can MC10 be used with standard USB IR devices like the following:

http://resolution.extendedsystems.com/esi/products/wireless+connectivity+products/irda+adapters/product+detail/xtndaccess+irda+usb+adapter.htm

??

It's recognized perfectly by XP but I can't find an approriate plugin for MC (if a plugin is required).

Thanks,

You made need to use Girder.  See if there is a plug in for girder.  If there is you can control MC using mjextman commands via girder.  There is a sample girder gml file in the extras folder bundled with mc.  The best way to control mc remotely IMO is via a wifi enabled pocket pc using NetRemote.

I looked around for a girder plugin for this, but didn't see one.   It's really an IrDA device, but because of the short range between my couch and the home entertainment center I was hoping it might work.

I do use a wifi-equipped Ipaq w/ NetRemote for MC10, and it works beautifully.  I want the IR remote for simple functionality like next song, stop, pause, etc. for guests, primarily.  I want my Sony STRDA3000ES's remote to have just a little control over MC10.

If anyone has any pointers, that would be great.  Failing any progress, I can just buy one of the supported IR devices.  I had this IrDA USB dongle lying around, so it's essentially a free solution.

They are useless I'm afraid.  Best bet is an IrMan or USB-UIRT.
