Album Replay Gain and iPod
« on: August 25, 2004, 12:35:05 pm »

I've just made the jump to MC11 after reading that it supports Album Replay Gain and getting all excited.  :D  It's easily my most-wanted feature.

I can't see any way to get this to work with the iPod, however.  The "Set Upload Volume Adjustment" screen you get when you right-click on the iPod icon looks the same as it did in MC10.

Please, please, please tell me there's a way to set the Replay Gain by album when syncing with the iPod....

Madcow,

This can be added, but not immediately. I will be able to provide a selection which will allow you to set either track or album gain for the setting on iPod.

Okay I'll try to be patient.

Thanks again for the prompt response.

I feel like I'm nagging  ;)

But I just wanted to check that this feature is still planned for implementation.  It's my "Most Wanted" by miles.  Still on the horizon, Steve?

Fair enough - can you say whether this will make it into MC11 before release?

More than likely.

I guess there's little or no chance of this actually making it into MC11?  :(

It's not like there's only going to be one MC11 build. They will improve once MC11 once all or most bugs have been ironed out. I'm certain a new and much improved iPod plugin will show up within foreseeable future.

Not by previous standards.  There might be another build or two to iron out major bugs they've missed, but generally once MC has "gone live", that's it.

Then if we want the features that we expected to go into this version but which didn't make it, we have to pay more money to upgrade to the next version.  :(

Your theory somehow lacks. How does it explain Media Center 9.1...

That was a one-off, as far as I am aware.

MC 9.1 -> MC10 = paid upgrade
MC 10 -> MC11 = paid upgrade

To be honest I thought there was more difference between MC9 and 9.1 than there has been between MC10 and MC11, so I'm not sure what the policy is myself.  However I think there's at least a good chance that the next version will be MC12 and there will be a cost associated with it.

You don't buy MC... you rent it.

Man there is a HUGE difference in MC11 over 10..... THere was not much difference between 9.1 and 10.

"You don't buy MC... you rent it."   Isn't this the case with Most software? They finish 1 version, then go to the next one.

In regards to changes in replay/album gain, most of this can be done after the release of 11 via the plugin. Sorry it did not make the release this time.
