I Pod as a video hardrive
« on: August 25, 2004, 02:45:48 pm »

I am looking to purchase a Apple I-Pod to record video. Is it possible to use an ipod to record video straight out of camera using firewire. Is there a problem doing this? I woder if there is a need for the video to be compredssed before being stored on the ipod. If you have any information on this subject let me know.

Aside from the caveats that:

1) Battery life will be an issue with having a hard drive on the iPod run all the time.
2) You'll be producing a lot of heat by having the hard drive on the iPod run all the time.
3) The hard drive is not very performance-oriented. It may not be fast enough to capture at the rate you need.

Personally, I'd suggest a normal 3.5in Firewire drive....

Best,
Brad
