Recent Changes

I don't know what you did, but this version fixed most of the TV problems that I was having...

FIXED...
* Am still getting the Failed to load JRImage.dll that a lot of users have reported on right after installing MC11.  It still shows even after a Win XP restart as required by some installs of MC; it finally goes away after the second Win XP boot up.

FIXED...
* TV was scrambled; the Video Crossbar was coming up with the incorrect TV input as Video Tuner In (should be S-Video as that is all I have hooked up).

FIXED...
* I can change it to S-Video and I will get the correct TV image but it will revert back to Video Tuner the next time I try to load the TV.

* There was no sound on the TV.

* Got several other error messages.

* Had a broken library and had to rebuild it which took forever.

Bugs:

1. With "Auto size columns" turned off, MC does not remember manual column size  adjustments.  Switch between views or playlist and the column widths are reset.
2. Select several songs to change their ratings, when you click a rating star, only one song gets changed.
3. If MC displays a dialog and you click on one of the choices, if the button you click on happens to be directly on top of the rating stars, MC will "see through" the dialog and change the rating on the hilighted tracks below.


Requests:

1. Allow users to disable autorip so that we have some more control over our workflow. (been requested quite a few times)
2. Option to reduce thread priority for the Analyze Audio function.  Currently, during audio analysis, my computer gets very sluggish. I have been manually adjusting thread priority in Windows Task Manager.
3. Make 'Tools > Options > File Location > Base Path' always be the default for renaming operations.  I would rather change it on the fly for exceptions than have to remember to constantly check it to make sure it is correct.  If I perform a rename and need to change the base path for this one time only, MC defaults to this changed value next time instead of using the "Base Path" defined in options.
4. I love the new Album Gain support, but I'd really like the ability to make manual adjustments to AG as per the Replay Gain proposal.
5. "File manager" function that would, when moving audio files, also move the associated files (rip logs, cover art, PAR files, etc.)  Currently, this isn't possible with the "Rename" method of moving files, and if files are moved externally to MC, it requires an additional "Import" to fix their locations.

Theater View:

In Playing now (when there are more files in the queue that can fit on the screen), when the last song on the screen is selected and the next one is going to play, the green triangle (which shows which file is playing), is out of the screen, the playing now queue doesn't shift so it will be viewable.

This works fine though when using the "Next" button but not when you let it automatically advance to the next song.

Maybe a good idea to have the playing now song on top of the screen or divide the playing now screen into a "playing now queue" and a "playing now song info screen" ?

I have some usability complains about some improvements in TV :

** The new popup menu is (as always IMO) not as slick and beautifful than the .67 version. (due to the too simple uniform background?)

** Playing now :

   - The menu is IMO sometimes very confusing with a lot of unnessary items
     (for  TV). I don't need Preset, Camera, Framerate and Speed to be quickly
     accesible when unsing 3d visualisation!!! Nice to see it's dynamic, but it adds
     confusion too.
     
   - Can you put something (like up and down arrows) to let users know that the
      left  panel needs to be scrolled when it has not enough room to draw all
      buttons. I was lost during a few seconds before understanding that it has
      scrolled (and neeed to be scrolled).  

   - I think that the Home button (and the "back" one if it appers someday) should
     be accessible and at the same position at all time. Instead it disapears when  
     you scroll down
 
Try this :
    Put two files in playing now : an image and a video.
    Go to Playing Now and try to enter the tools menu to rotate the image left (or right or whatever you want) while the image is still playing.
    Now, if you wait a few second, (enough to let MC skip to the video) before choosing  "Rotate Left", no changes will be done on the image.
    Instead you'll have a menu you never asked for : "Home/aspect Rations/Configure Video/Controls" wich is the menu for Media Videos!

(Note : The Playing Now menu displays a "tools" button if an image was playing when you entered Playing Now. If it wasn't the case, play an image, go home and come back quickly or you won't have the "tools" button : totally inintuitive!)


** Now about the new "Controls" menu:

  - the same odd things happens when using the "Controls" Menu (media relative buttons stands and does nothing when MC skins to another media Type)

  - could you draw an arrow '>' in front of menu items that have a submenu?
     (like the ones we have in every menu in MC (file>quick play>etc...)

  - some controls like the "configure display" popups a standard window which has nothing to do in TV. It needs to be cancelled with mouse or esc key. I don't think remote users used to displaying Theater View on a TV (or a datashow or...) will like it.


When I'm testing Theater View I'm asking myself :
    "How will react users that have no idea of what MC is?"
and
    "How will react users that have no idea of how to use a computer?"
      (my little brother, my grand mother or my wife if I have one)

IMHO not too well with this version... too bad since the previous I've played with (.67) was really clear and simple.

The "Controls" button is available everywhere, you cannot miss it!

To see the Playing Now improvements (when in Theater View) try to play different media types (image or video or audio), go to Playing Now and check the buttons available on the left.
If you didn't played with Theater View in this build, you may not understand what I 'm saying....

Since I am usually rather quick to complain I think it only proper that I exclaim my satisfaction thus far with MC11.

At this moment it is sitting here idling along at 3% - 5% merrily playing files and behaving extremely well.

When uploading MP3s to my FTP server, MC 11 doesn't allow playing a tune until the file that is being uploaded has finished being uploaded.... It would be nice if I could listen to tunes while I'm uploading to my FTP site. The way it stands, the file must finish uploading before the next tune in the playlist will play.

Re the MC 11 Improvements you've listed--

It's helpful for you to list these, but it would be even more helpful if you told us how to access each of the improvements (e.g. split views) so we can check them out. I know they are probably discussed in other threads, but its a pain to track down such information, especially for features that are (at least initially) only of causual interest.

Can I mention again that the panes with grouping applied take up way too much space. And with the new autosizing of the panes they take up even more space.

Classic visualizations don't work at all... MC doesn't respond when I launch it.

And GForge doesn't seem to work in 11, is it normal?  
And my 3D visualization is still very very slow (1fps) when it executes on my second display monitor. It's a bug I have already posted before

(I have only 3D Visualization, Illustration and cover art that work!   )

MC 11.0.70 doesn't like my "A Tribute To Ramones Album".

Doesn't play, doesn't show File Type info, cannot read or write tags. MC shows only this:



I have tried about everything: removed all tags in another program, renamed the path, imported again, cleared the library and restored a fresh copy of MC 10 library, but nothing worked.

MC 10 on the same PC has no problems with the album. Also Winamp and Foobar 2000 can use the same MP3 files normally.

Album files are MP3 (LAME 3.93). Path and filenames are like this:
"D:\Music\A Tribute To Ramones\06 - Kiss - Do You Remember Rock And Roll Radio.mp3".

Other albums are OK so far (I have tried about 50 from over 2000).

Strange Behavior:
I am noticing some minor issues which I would like to see if others are experience, and which may be bugs.

1- When tagging in the Panes using 'F4' Tagging mode, tag changes are occaisionally reverting back to the pre-edited tag. Tagging in the A/W, then running 'Update tags from library' seems to make them stick better.

2- A complete album is ripped, tagged, imported, renamed from tags and placed in a folder based on the "Name file from properties" folder template.
Shortly thereafter, when checking the Tasks smartlist for 'Incomplete Albums' this same CD shows up missing from 1 to several tracks.
They were there, now they have vanished. I run Import and they are still missing. Next I re-rip the missing tracks to make the album complete once again, resulting in me finding these same tracks now appear in the Tasks smartlist for Duplicate Files!!  That's right, now there are suddenly two of them as the 'missing tracks' suddenly appear.  Odd, to say the least.

Two problems

1) MC11 changes date (Year) field when ripping from WAV to APE. I would like to keep the Year field as is as I store recording date here !!

2) Even though I have set MC11 to delete original WAV file after conversion, it still keeps it. Pretty odd and means more wokr deleting WAVs manually from hard disk

MC freezes when I have start playback on startup and a it tries to play a video file. Tried both Xvid and Divx. I have to edit the registry to stop it starting playback to be able to do anything in MC.

great news. However i tried 2 different DVD's and both froze about 1 or 2 seconds into the intro...

also the hairstyle skin is the only one that works in theatre view

Crop has changed with MC 11.0.70...

* TV Configuration\Display\Aspect Ratio\Crop has changed with MC 11.0.70 and is acting a little weird...

* Crop seems to still be working ok when cropping a standard 4:3 aspect ratio TV signal that includes a 4:3 image.

* When used on a 4:3 aspect ratio TV signal that includes a widescreen image, there used to be very thin black bars on the top and bottom of the cropped (zoomed) image.  Now, the image is pushed up to the top of the screen and there is one wide black bar at the bottom of the screen which looks weird.

* Would like to see all black bars cropped out.  If that means loosing a little of the left and right ends of a widescreen image that that would be a fair tradeoff to get the widescreen images filling up the whole screen with no black bars on the top or bottom.

MC11 looks and feels great so far! I was especially interested in trying the split views feature and after about 30 minutes I finally worked out how to use it (Ctrl+Shift+Select-a-View). The only odd thing about it is that the split views don't save on exit which is very frustrating. Is this a setting somewhere?

A couple of other features I'd been hoping to see in MC11 but don't seem to have made it yet include:-

1) The ability to save playlists and other changes made locally on a client machine connected to a Media Server.
2) The ability to stream DVD content via Media Server (eg, an entire VIDEO_TS directory)
3)  A setting which enables MC to remember where you where in your library when switching between views. Currently, you could be in the Audio view browsing artists and then you briefly switch to the Playing Now view. When you return to the Audio view, the list is refreshed (taking you to the top of the list) and you're forced to find your place again.

Finally, is MC11 supposed to expire?

However:
This does not seem to apply to tagging.  Tagging changes are requiring too much 'focus', using too much processor.  

If this is in the interest of speedy tagging, I for one would prefer slower tagging saves without compromising playback, causing stuttering/hesitation/momentary freezes of the system and the audio playback.

feature request:

We're nearly there. You've now made an option to chose build in pictures for view schemes (ie picture, audio, folder etc) now you just gotta expand it with a custom! It would be great to be able to assign my Danish music with a flag, my ipod view scheme with an ipod etc. This should be expanded to playlistes too, and in the end one should be able to give any file in the library a custom icon.

I really like the new search line btw! Great to have things highlighted with bold etc.

1.Some of my mp3s are not playing in media center. it gives me a "playback error" or sometimes just does nothing at all. these files play fine in win media player.


2.I Click on burn cd and then following the instructions to make an auido cd and all seems well. until i get to the part where i have to drag and drop files into the list in the action window. where the panes should be there is only the queue list for the cd. when i click on viewchemes etc nothing happens.

Hi guys - a few more points on audio CD burning:

1) There should be an option to set the track boundary gap, if nothing than at least to 0 seconds (which I think it's at now) and 2 seconds (standard).  Setting on a track-by-track basis would be great.

2) There are two checkboxes for direct-to-CD decoding, one in the main burning options window, and the other under the DSP window.  Only the one on the main window seems to matter.

3) The documentation states that when you enable normalizing when burning, direct-to-CD is disabled.  However this is not the case.  It's real noticeable when you normalize and have tracks crossfade, as the rendered crossfade sections are normalized and the rest isn't.

4) I'd love to see the ability to set up profiles ("Standard CD", "Mix CD", "Mix CD w/ crossfade", etc.) so that you can preconfigure your favourite burn options.  As it stands, my wife wouldn't know how to set it up manually before every burn and make sure the options are set back after.

5) The strangest one.  If direct-to-CD burning is disabled so that the entire CD is prerendered, then once in a while, say every 3 discs, a track or two will burn with really odd behavior.  There may be an audio glitch within the first second of the track, and then the audio sloooooooooows down for 5-6 more seconds and slowly ramps back up to normal speed.  Weird!  I thought it was a burning issue but when I play back the burn cache file that resides in the temp folder, the glitches are present in the file.  I use lossless .wma almost exclusively so this may only happen when burning lossless .wma files with direct-to-CD disabled.  I haven't noticed it with .mp3 files yet.

In the meantime, until burn profiles ever show up and this funny behavior is caught, I've found that you can set up a burn queue the way you want and then drag/drop the entire list into a Nero session for burning w/ normalize, varying track gaps, etc.  So, thanks for the ability to drag and drop files from MC into other apps!

It would also be a good time to mention what MC would need so you wouldn't want TheaterTek.
