Media Server and Firewall
« on: November 06, 2002, 04:52:35 am »

Why isn't there an option in media server to specify the IP of my server? I sit behind a firewall at home and want to listen to streamed audio at work. the media Server, however, displays 192.168.0.x because my system is hidden behind a router and i can't reach that system from work. i need to assign the IP of the router.

You need to tell your router to forward packets for the socket/port you use in Media Server to the "internal" address.  See your router manual or the company's web page for details.

From the outside, you will then connect to Media Server by entering the router's external IP address.

This is the standard for how it's done with TCP/IP.
