Media Center 11.0.78 Alpha Available
« on: September 08, 2004, 04:59:25 pm »

We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your settings.  Some plugins still do not work.

We recommend that you use MC10 below, but if you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110078.exe  [see price link above]

  • Many Theater View enhancements
  • Animated Direct3D file browsing
  • Split views so you can look at two (or more) views at the same time (ex. look at Media Library and Playing Now together)
  • Vastly improved database engine capable of handling 100,000's of files and large amounts of metadata (lyrics, bios, etc.)
  • Several memory and speed enhancements -- like database and skin unloading when minimizing MC
  • Much of MC's interface can be translated to other languages
  • Integrated database import and update with smart broken linking repairing, and other nice features
  • MC can run with guest permissions on Windows 2000 / Windows XP
  • New view customization system with more flexibility for thumbnail size, text, etc.
  • Options dialogs reworked -- several small options added
  • Added multi-zone synchronization
  • Added Album Gain support
  • Document support with full text searching / indexing
  • Pane auto-sizing
  • Tile view that allows fully customizable Track Info style tiles to be used in file lists
  • New database caching layer that makes a huge speed difference in many areas of MC
  • File tagging happens in a background thread so MC can continue to be used while it's saving tags
  • Basic image editing
  • Enhanced album grouping for pictures so pictures taken together get grouped without any user intervention
  • Preview mode to only play the intro of songs

just looking for a song called "i'm sorry" and i found that the searches came up with different results when i used "im sorry" and "i'm sorry". i thought this had been fixed so that apostrophes and other punctuation didnt affect the search...

Punctuation is used in the search.

However, accent characters are converted to their non-accented counterparts.

i dont know if others agree, but for things like apostrophes and full stops its hard to remember if the tracks have them:

some examples include...

"Disc No. 1" versus "Disc No 1"
"Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and "Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang"

i'm sure there are great reasons for keeping them in the search, i just cant think of any now!

Just don't use quotes in your searches and everything will work.

Example search 1: mr kiss
Example search 2: disc 1

It'll find the track(s) whether there's a period or not.

nice one Omni... ;D

the issue is this. i like having the track info correct (ie. possessives, foreign characters etc used in the correct places) but MC didnt recognise them. so i used simple english. MC then changed to understand foreign characters and anything newly ripped includes these. I thought that MC had also changed the punctuation rules also, and so i started to rip new stuff with the punctuation in it. Now i find that i've been mistaken. So i either remove all punctuation from all my 30,000 files or by hand repunctuate the older stuff...

I'd prefer for the searches to be unaffected by punctuation as i cant think of when people would be upset by having several plurals fall in with their possessives, but i may be missing something obvious.

pip

ps. sorry j river for clogging up the alpha board which is still bugs only

Can I Install Ver. 11 in a different directory from Ver. 10 without changing any of Ver. 10's settings or changing its database?

You can install ver. 11 side by side with ver. 10.

It will not interfere with v.10 at all.

-- After a clean install of 11.0.78, when I try to run Media Server, a dialog entitled Media Server pops up that says "Media Server is already running" and has only an Ok button. I see no evidence that Media Server is running, so this appears to be a bug. [Edit: this appears to be an issue specific to one machine, so I've started a new thread.]

I had a wild idea to use the automation interfaces to create my own theater view. Do you think this is feasible? Can you give me a guess to whether there is enough power in the exposed interfaces to do nearly everything I would want to for my own theater view? If I begin this project, is it something that you guys at JRiver would support as far as minor features/fixes/exposed features are concerned?

I started playing with it very briefly. Pretty neat! Ran into two problems though. First, MC11 created out of proc shows the main window whilst the documentation says it should not. Second, if I have called showProgram(0), the main window is shown again when I stop playing video.

Good work again guys...

Requests:

The following features (if not already planed/scheduled) will be great:

1/ possibility to add any keyboard shortcuts. At least for theater view. ie: access directly to TV with <CTRL>+<SHIFT>+T or something else (I'm using an ATI Remote Control (AIW) with girder so will be good to add shortcuts... also shortcuts for channels (ie: 1 for first channel, 2 for second....)
2/ be able in theater view to change the scheme views for audio. I've a Custom Scheme with Location item, this is ok in standard view bu in theater view I've always view by Genre  :'(
3/ add web media in Theater View (to be able to view shoutcast and other web radio)
4/ in the scheduler application to be able to choose the type of encoder for recording TV for a given recording task, ...
5/ Any port to Linux planed ? using wine ? I'm using Windows almost only for Media Center...
6/ a filter or something to be able to access directly to a certain point in theater view for each category (video for instance I've a first menu Locatin (V:\DiVX) and Unassigned, I click on Location (v:\DiVx), then I've 3 choices again All Location, This Folder and Unassigned, so I click on this Folder and I've finally all my files, ... It would be great to access directly to this list instead of having to click 3 times...)...

Thx a lot,

It would be cool, but I'm sure it would not be easy. Does windows media player or quick time can run with wine's help?

The X-10 MP3 remote plug-in still refuses to install...   Any idea why?

I tried deleting it from the jriver/media center/plugin directory before installing it. The installation process does install the plug-in back there, but I still cannot access it via MC's plug-in Manager or via Options-Remote.

I don't think this to be the correct way to work in Theater View!

Home>Images>Select a Folder>Play.

This opens up Standard View instead of Full Screen View.

Rename Files From Properties
« Reply #18 on: September 09, 2004, 07:41:53 am »

These days I have been organizing my music library with MC 10.

I have realized that when change the name to the file and the folder that contains it (actually, I move the file to another folder) using "Library Tools > Rename Files From Properties", the empty folder not flock, as yes it happens when change the names from "Tag Info".

Erasing the empty folders after moving the archives contained them is a detail that I like of MC;  but doing it of this other way, the folders follow there and it does not give option to erase them with the program (it is necessary to do it from Windows, grrrr!!).

I have not verified if in MC 11 this behavior follows equal.  If thus outside, a detail would be everything to resolve it.

thanks

Request: Watch Folder or function search and replace file.
« Reply #20 on: September 09, 2004, 08:09:16 am »

Request:  Watch Folder or function search and replace file.

I present this case:  I have a file to which the moved name or of folder has changed to him, from Windows.  When opening MC, logically it does not find it.  How to say to him to MC which is the new name of the file at issue?

I have looked for ways and the only form has again be concerning it, and erasing the obsolete reference.  Perhaps there is another form, but I have not found it.

Request:  Some function could be devised type "Find perhaps & Replace".

Although would be better (mainly when they are many archives) something like the "Watch Folders" of MusicMatchJukeBox or WMP, that detect changes and new archives automatically and concern them to the library directly (although I would prefer something more of control on the part of the user).

It is a suggestion.

Thanks.

Pepe,

Import will find and fix broken links as long as you give it all the folders the file could have been moved to. (or use 'Entire Computer')

Burning Audio CD.  When I went to change CD text my cursor didn't appear.  I needed to use keyboard to move position and field and then enter for it to accept what I had written.

Just noticed something:

A couple of days ago, I created a new library to catalog all of my music backups on DVD-R.

I didn't base the new library on any other library, nor did I import any playlists, yet the new library contains the playlists that I had created in the default library. But when I select them, they are empty.

How did they get there?

I have 2 portable devices:
1) IPOD
2) Archos Jukebox Recorder

Both are working fine in MC10.  Both of their drive letters show up.  I can right click either one and choose "synchronize" from the menu and transfer files to them.

I installed 11.0.78.  When asked if I want to uninstall 10, I said no.
This release sees the ipod and can sync to it fine, but it doesn't recognize the Archos as a device.  It does show it if you drill down into "my computer" under devices and click on it's drive letter.  But there's no synchronize option under right click menu there.

I checked under Options>Plugins and here's what's there under handhelds:
Portable Drives 11.0.06
WMDM 11.0.01

also notable is that if I click the configure button under WMDM, I get an error message "Media Center.ex.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows.  An error log is being created."

I couldn't find any sort of error log file in the program's folder or in my windows event viewer.  If you can tell me where this log is supposed to be I'll post the info from it.

I did a search on the forums and came up with a couple threads about the archos being recognized as a hard drive instead of as a portable.  The solution was that MC uses the drive label to tell it's an Archos device.  I tried the suggestion of changing the drive label to Archos or Jukebox.  Neither works.  It's set as Jukebox now.   MC10 sees it fine and the synchronize option is available.  MC11 sees it as a hard drive and it doesn't show up in the devices list.

zxsix,

The WMDM plugin should not be 'Configurable'. This is disabled in the next MC build. In regards to your Archos, is it visible using WMP? My guess is no. In this case, we need to come up with a plan for Archos because all player recognition is now based on WMDM which apparantly does not recognize Archos. Please confirm the point about WMP.

Thanks,

Steve

6. Fixed: Player / decoder core end capping wouldn't work properly when resampling. (used for CUE support, etc.)

I don't know what this means, but I'm sure it is useful/cool when I do.
Meantime, .78 does not import CUE files/entries.

Might if I drag & drop them, but that isn't the same. I just installed .78 clean and am importing now. I choose only audio file types and the import is quite slow compared to MC 10.

1. Auto sized panes gived grouped fields way too much space. counter to logic, they get more space than non grouped panes.

2. setvolume doesnt work in media scheduler. unless the follwing command is incorrect: "Command VolumeSet [35] "

3. .asf files (which are video files on my machine) are showing up in the audio file schemes.

M.

Correction: The music playlists are empty, buy the unwanted image playlists in the new library are displaying all the pictures. These pictures are not even in the library. Could it be that MC is using the Default library's thumbnails?

Thanks,

Steve

I don't use WMP, but I checked and it's not showing up in there either.  I checked http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/devices/ and it doesn't list any of the Archos jukeboxes on there as compatible, only the new audio/video model.   Can you go back to the old way of checking the volume label of the drive?  That's working great in 10, but I'm wanting to move forward to 11 for some of the other enhancements.

More info. ALL my pictures were actually imported into this new library! Same applies to all my videos and documents that were cataloged in the Default library.

But somehow, it did not import the music files from the Default Library.

I'm getting confused here... :-)

if you do a search for "Bradbury_13" in "media library"

then delete "_13"

MC will not do a search for

"Bradbury"

if it would it would find my "Bradbury_Thirteen_-_1984_To_1984" files

as a matter of fact if you erase the whole line in the search box so nothing is in the seach box

MC will not research and find all files in "media library" like it did before

the only way to do a search then is to click on something like playing now and then back to "media library" and then type in a search parm.

is this the way it should work?

It is not working like that here. I wrote "remix_" in the search, no search results. I backspaced to "remix", MC showed all entries with remix. I backspaced everything, MC showed the whole library.
