Should I avoid using the PC for other tasks while ripping a CD, is there a danger that this could cause glitches or somehow corrupt the sound of the encoded file ?

I am using a fairly recent PC, P4 2.4 GHz with a built-in LG CD burner.

I was told 2-3 years ago that while burning a CD-R it was much safer to leave the PC alone and disable applications that could wake-up by themselves (like screensavers). Does that still prevail ?

I think your safe with newer computers like yours, but it also depends what is going on with the system and what your running.

Digital Secure riping is safer if your having problems.

As King said, I don't think you have to worry with a modern PC and a multitasking OS (e.g. XP) unless your PC is totally overstressed. I have often several things going on simultaneously with ripping.

Only when burning CDs it is absolutely critical that the data stream is uninterrupted. New burners have buffer underrun protection systems and there are far less problems.

I use MC's secure ripping and then sleep a little better at night.
