Media Jukebox "Hijacking" ??
« on: September 19, 2004, 09:36:18 am »

My firewall is reporting:
//
Application Hijacking has been detected
The application: F:\MediaCenter\Media Jukebox.exe  try to launch another application:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe  to go to remote host  rover.jriver.com
//

and

//
Application Hijacking has been detected
The application: C:\WINDOWS\system32\mjextman.exe  try to launch another application:
 C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe  to go to remote host  rover.jriver.com
//

Even when Media Center is not running.
Why is this? (and how to avoid this?)

it may be detecting MC getting the http start page

it is basicly a web page, and i think mc uses the Microsoft browser control in visual C

big deal

Could it be the auto update feature that goes to rover.jriver.com?

Try turning off auto update in Tools-Options-Stratup to see.

Michel.

Whatever is going on for wulffra, I'm pretty sure it's not start page stuff. Media Center gets its start page from www.musicex.com.....

http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/internal_pages/redirect.pl?type=Start&prodname=Media%20Center&version=

not rover.jriver.com, also, wulffra states above that with MC closed, mjextman still tries to launch internet explorer.

Is rover.jriver.com not the secure server that handles product registration?
It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, after applying the liscence to MC, it (MC) fires an instance of internet explorer and fetches a 'thank you for registering' page from rover.jriver.com

wulffra, have you just applied your liscence to media center?

-marko.

Yes, but that was yesterday, after freshly installing XP all the apps.

Was just curious about these reports (never saw them b4).

The fact that MC connects to www.musicex.com or whatever doesn't mean that it's not connecting to rover.jriver.com.

Ever heard of DNS aliases?? What it means is that you might have a number of apparent hostnames (www.jriver.com, mail.jriver.com etc etc), but they all resolve to the same host at jriver, which happens to run these services.

So the differing hostnames don't mean anything.

rover.jriver.com is our license server.  It's not a problem.

Assumed it would not be a problem, but was just curious though as to why
connection is being made whilst
a. mc is not launched/running
b. mc was installed/registered the day before

mc is not showing up in the list of allowed/blocked-apps list of my firewall.

well, anyway ...
