OT: 7 days
« on: September 11, 2004, 10:59:51 pm »

That's right...you will not be hearing from me for 7 days!

  • I will not be doing any new skins.
  • I will not be updating any of my skins.
  • I will not be reporting bugs.
  • I will not be using MC.
  • I will not be answering any of my emails.
  • I will not be using the internet.
  • I will not be using my computer.

This is it. The time has come and the time is now.

Now for a lot of you, this may be the best news you have read all week. For others, it may be the worst.

You see, I'm addicted to MC. I just can't get enough of it. I use it all day, every day. I read these forums like they won't be here the next day. I mean constantly. When I get up, come home, eating, staying up late at night, etc. I enjoy using MC a lot as you can tell. I'm always here. I mean always like this is my second home.

But there's a problem. Although I'm addicted to MC, I'm also addicted to something that's way way worse...nicotine. Now you can see where I'm going with this. The only way for me to stop is to stop something else and this is it. Sadly, there is no other way.

I will have to choose: MC or nicotine. This will be the power that I need to get me through each day.

So, the next post you see from me will be me as a non-smoker. Wish me luck!

I don't get it then.  Why the seven day hiatus if your personal mantra is going to be, "MC or nicotine?"  ?

Is this your roundabout way of saying you are going to keep smoking for another week?  :P

Well, cheers and good luck on your new lifestyle!  May success shine upon you.  8)

He's lashed himself to the pump under the windmill in his yard.

Good luck, Dave.  You're a good man.

All the best mate.

I went through the stopping smoking process about 5 months ago.

It's tough, but worth it.

It will be 3 years for me in January...

It is tough, but it IS worth it...

What may help, is looking for a cancerous lung on the internet and looking at that everytime you want a smoke...

Good luck and see you in a week...

You have my support dude!

My wife and I are currently smokers. We gave up some months ago with the use of Zyban. However, when the Zyban ran out, we wimped out and started choofing again.

We have just been to the doctors to get multiple prescriptions for Zyban, which we will stay on for "as long as it takes" to get free of this evil and highly addictive drug (I've been smoking for around 20 years, and am not addicted to anything else).

If you have a lot of difficulty stopping, give Zyban a try - it doesn't work for everyone, but it definately works for the majority of smokers. Google for Zyban if you want to find out more about it.

Good luck!

Best of luck to you, Dragyn!!!  I hail from a family where I was the only non smoker.   My Nana quit when she turned 60...after 45 years of puffing away.  My sister also quit.  This is not as easy as it looks from the outside looking in.   I have two kids who are smokers, and one is trying to quit as she is expecting...and my son just isn't ready, yet.    You have done a good thing, giving yourself a treat to look forward to.  For my sister, it was using the money she saved to go on a real vacation - one that included room service  8) and daily pick up's by someone other than herself.     Looking forward to hearing about your success!!!

I guess they must be letting Dave out tomorrow.  White gown, tied in back, paper slippers, sunglasses, a black '55 Cadillac limo, running at the curb, with a guy in a dark suit smoking a cigarette and leaning against the fender.

Where will Dave go from there?

Thanks everyone!!

The seven days thing was supposed to be like in the movie: the ring.

I did get a lot better. I'm still working at it. Started at 20 and like to keep it only in my 20s. That's my goal anyway.

Lot of stress at work lately, especially today since I was an hour late!! I'm a supervisor and you all know how that goes. Anyway, I've been doing a lot of painting lately and I can't obviously smoke while doing that -- I'd blow myself up.

Dragyn, you've got my best wishes man.  That smoking thing is a rough one. I started when I was 13 and quit when I was 21, started again at 22, quit 9 months later, started again 9 months later, and then quit again 6 weeks later. It's seemed to get easier since the first time. Right now I'm going on six months, with a slight relapse about 3 weeks ago when I bought a pack, smoked 4, and then came to my senses and threw it away before I had the chance to smoke more.

Quitting becomes much easier once you begin to taste and smell things again. And waking up without the sinus and throat problems are definately a plus too.

Never give "luck" much consideration in the real scope of things after taking a stats 350  course - too much dang math is involved with "luck"  ;D
