Buffering
« on: November 04, 2002, 11:32:01 am »

I am using the media server to stream from a cable system to an adsl, yet my machine still has to buffer several times per song.  Are there any tweaks I can use to improve performance?
I've tested both systems through DSL Reports and they are very adequate.  Thanks

One or the other of your PC's isn't giving you enough bandwidth.  The nominal bandwidth of the connection won't necessarily be accurate.  For example, to play MP3's encoded at 128Mbps, you would need a connection somewhat faster than that.

The bitrate of the files you're playing is very important.  You can confirm this by converting a few files to a lower bitrate.

Exactly what's the DSLReports speed test reporting for both systems and what bitrate were the files encoded at?

My home download is reported at 2713 kbps at DSL Reports and the files are all encoded at 128.  I will need to check the the other machine again.

The upload speed can be different from the download speed.
