iPod Alarm Clock not using playlists
« on: September 29, 2004, 09:44:36 am »

Hi,

I've recently changed over from iTunes to MC 10, and noticed that when using the Alarm Clock on my iPod, it does not play the playlist I'd selected. Is there a fix for this bug?

In more detail:
I set the time for the alarm to go off. By default, the 'Sound' is set to 'Beep'. I select Sound, and all the playlists are listed. When I select a playlist using the select button on the ipod, the alarm clock screen is displayed again, but the Sound is still displayed as 'Beep' (when I used to use the ipod with iTunes, it would display the name of the playlist I had just selected).

When the alarm goes off, instead of the ipod switching on and playing songs from the playlist, it plays from the entire set of songs loaded on my ipod (including songs with 1 star etc).

Also sometimes when I set the alarm, it doesn't even go off. I never had these issues when using iTunes, but hope they can be resolved as this is a key feature for me (wakes me up in the morning, starts my day off etc etc).

Thanks.

P.S: Remember, there are 3 types of people in this world. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Well, I can only add my voice and say I have the exact same results as you. I thought it was an iPod problem since I've never used iTunes with my iPod.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the prompt response... any rough ideas on when you'll get a chance to look into it /  resolve it? My 30 day trial runs out in about 20 days and the alarm thing is the deciding factor for me.

Thanks

Not sure. I will get to it as soon as possible. Sorry to be vague.

Steve,

Have you had a chance to look at this yet?

I have looked at it briefly, but not come up with a solution yet. I will keep searching.

I have a 4th gen 40MB iPod and was blissfully using the Alarm Clock feature. After three weeks, it stopped working, but I used the reset method (holding down the MENU and center button until the Apple logo appeared).
Voila - worked again, allowing me to wake up to playlists!

Looking on other message boards, this is a problem with the iPod, not Media Center. I have not tried to reset my iPod yet because ... well ... I just haven't.

If you are wondering whether or not to make the switch, let me just say that I am a convert from iTunes and I couldn't be happier.

The alarm clock feature for playlists still must be included for MC.
