New DirectX Host- Broken?
« on: October 01, 2004, 12:27:22 am »

We uploaded a new version of DirectX host that doesn't take resources or startup time unless it's enabled.

Anyone with it installed should go here and download the new version:
http://accessories.musicex.com/mediacenter/accessories.php

Matt, when I installed this all was fine. Start MC, close it, start again. No problems.

After a reboot, the DirectX Host button is in DSP Studio and checked but there is nothing in the window. No host, no DirectX plugins.

I found that because after rebooting I started playing an APE file. There was white noise/static mixed into the music. I of course thought that it could be the new DirectX host so went to DSP Studio and that is what I found. Unchecking and rechecking the DirectX Host box took care of the white noise/static but nothing has returned the DirextX Host.

Thanks GHammer.

Matt,
This fixed the white noise and I can enable/disable DirectX Host and the sound changes. But I have no list of plugins or control for the plugin that is active.

Again, when I install it, I can control the plugins. But after a reboot the control is gone.

Confirmed here usually just closing and reopening MC makes it go bad. Reinstalled old version all is ok.

Are we speaking of a general fix for the DirectX Host ... or a DXH for a specific version of MC?

In .98 the DSP Studio opens under MC.
And this problem with no way to configure the DIrectX Host is still present.

I can't reproduce.

Does it matter what filters you have selected?  Could you give an exact step-by-step?

Thanks.

I have nothing in DSP Studio enabled except the DirectX Host.
I see no real pattern, but usually if I click DSP Studio, or choose it from Options, I can't use DirectX Host.

If I use an older .mjp it will load the old version and all is well.

If you need more info, just let me know what you'd like.

Hi matt as I said before I can duplicate this here. Unlike GHammer I have the effects enabled as well as Directx host.

To reproduce you must start playback before trying to open DSP studio. Here are the steps that cause the issue for me everytime.

1. Launch Media Center
2. Start Playback
3. Launch DSP Studio
4. DirectX Host shows no entries but they are affecting playback.

The follwoing steps cause a different issue:

1. Launch Media Center
2. Launch DSP Studio
3. DirectX Host shows all entries
4. Start playback all seems well DSP Studio can be opened and closed and Directx Host is OK but......
5. Stop playback
6. try to restart playback and MC locks at 100% CPU usage and shows "Bufering"

Both of the above are reproduceable everytime on my system. The old Directx Host is ok.

All seems fine here.
I have started MC, opened DSP Studio, the DirectX Host is there and usable.
Played a song, while playing opened DSP Studio, the DirectX Host is there and usable.
Stopped playback, opened DSP Studio, the DirectX Host is there and usable.
Shutdown and started MC, opened DSP Studio, the DirectX Host is there and usable.

All that's left is a reboot and I'll do it later. But it certainly seems to be working well.

Thanks!

Whoops spoke too soon...

The first issue I mentioned above is fixed but issue number 2 is still there. It only shows with two DirectX Items selected in the DirectX host. With two items selected MC locks If playback is stopped and the restarted. The original version of DIrectX Host does not exhibit this behavior. Let me know if you need more info.

Some filters won't properly handle access from a new thread on the second playback.  Could you test to see if it is in fact filter specific?

Thanks.

It doesn't seeem to matter what 2 filters I activate in the DirectX Host it will lock MC and the desktop if more than 1 is enabled and playback is stopped and then started.

Hi matt, not wanting to be a pest I am sure you've got alot to to do. Just thought I'd bump this since I posted the info you asked late friday and I wasn't sure you saw this before it got pushed down over the weekend.

Also I am using the same filters with the old DirectX from last year and they work ok in tandem.

I've had the same problem when stopping and starting directx host everythin crashes. I also have the registered AdaptX version which is identical but much more stable. Can't use it on 11 yet though
